Is there proof that what you eat matters if you're slim and active?

I've ate fast food, candy, cake and whatever else I've wanted all my life yet I've always been slim with minimal/moderate exercise.

Is there any proof that eating "healthier" given the same amount of calories actually does anything for your health?

It doesn't matter as long as you get your micro requirements.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I tend to feel better when I eat certain foods and avoid others, but it's a pretty wide range and eating super clean doesn't seem to pay off more than moderation. Diminishing returns for sure. Obviously, calories are what matters most if you want to stay lean.

Being lean has ZERO to do with being healthy.

you're likely not an overeater

when people say sweets/etc... is bad for your health, they mean for people who eat huge amounts

Of course I don't eat all cake...I get sick of it after one or two slices. I like some meat, bread, cheese, dairy, fruit, veggies and pasta stuff too...not because I'm trying to be healthy just because it's what my tastebuds want. But if I do want sweets I'll eat as much as I want...bag of M&Ms and glass of milk...sure if it's what I see and want.

So slim/active, good muscle mass/strength, no evidence of disease, no need for any medications, healthy blood pressure, healthy resting heart rate, etc, are no indication of health? So what is? Why do people look at someone and say they look "healthy"?

So tell me what I should look for that indicates health. Apparently it's an invisible thing.

If someone says they have a healthy BMI, don't smoke, don't drink, good blood pressure, good heart rate, stay active, good muscle mass/strength, no medications, sleep well, etc -- you could determine they aren't actually healthy? Using what metric?

Hes a moron.

Op, you do realize athletes get sick all the time, right?

Being lean is actually unhealthy (srs)

The heavier you are, the better off you are fighting off toxins and diseases (dead srs)

Umm, slim doesn't mean lean to the point of being unhealthy with veins popping out everywhere.

Why do slimmer people in places all over the world live so long? Shouldn't we see the fatties being the ones living to 90+?

It does matter to an extent. Ask yourself the same question, but replace processed junk food with cigarettes.

Ask that question to many people who have seizures, which are well-known to stop when people go on a keto diet.

Or take a look at children who eat candy all day, and have cavities in every tooth, ask their moron parents if what you eat matters.

Talk to people with a nasal pharyngeal carcinoma, which is well known and proven to be partly caused and increased by salty snacks and processed foods, if what you eat matters.

I mean if you load up on trans fats or consume a chitload of red meat constantly or drink a lot of alcohol, we know these damage your body in various ways. A healthy diet is important.

Fruits, veggies, fresh meat (not salted like crazy), a sparing amount of breads and grains, and healthier fats consumed sparingly like olive oil and natural butter are probably best. If you eat mcdonalds or dominos everyday, chit probably won't be good for your health long term.

People are pretty retarded when it comes to health

“Health” is also a difficult term to define.

Ideally you’re going to eat a range of animal proteins, healthy fats, non gluten carbs, vegetables, & high quality water

From as high quality of a source you can find. This means minimal hormone, pesticide, toxins etc. Beef from a grass fed ranch, family farm owned butter, pasture raised chickens and eggs, organic fruits / veggies, etc etc.

There are levels to this. You can even factor in intangible things like the suffering of the animal, your specific genetic makeup, the utensils/containers you use, etc. It goes DEEP, most people don’t need to worry about this tho. I find this topic fascinating so I dive deep / take courses / have hired coaches.

Slim doesn’t equal healthy tho.

Also being slim and attractive does not necessarily mean you are healthy either OP. Lots of slim people with hypertension, diabetes, etc. It has to do with a lot more than exercise and diet. Lifestyle choices help, but it's not like they are a substitute for treatment.

pretty dumb take, as obviously anyone can have a 6 pack and have some fatal illness. the whole point though is that you dont have excess body fat which makes you more likely to get diseases

Having a very visible defined 6 pack also makes you more likely to get diseases fyi. Not sheriff aware. Optimal bodyfat is like 10-15% for health. There's a reason why when you cut and lean out, your sex drive goes to zero and you feel like chit without gear. Not having enough bodyfat means less hormone production and also impaired immune function.

Bodybuilders die hella young because of all the bullshyt they do to their bodies. So much for health lmao. Maybe medical science is more reliable than broscience.

junk food in the absence of obesity and other other health factors like high blood pressure/diabetes, etc, is equivalent to cigarettes?

could we look at someone that isn't overweight, exercises to some extent, doesn't smoke/drink/drug, gets proper sleep, no preexisting conditions and say they are more likely to be healthier than average? perhaps healthy enough to a degree where what they actually eat is less likely to be a detriment to their health?
