Imagine getting gunned down on your 12th birthday
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have identified the 12-year-old boy and two other victims killed in a triple shooting Thursday afternoon.
The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. on the 700 block of E. Locust Avenue in the city's Germantown section.
When officers arrived they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Nearby, police say a 12-year-old boy was found shot just a short distance from the men.
All three victims were taken to an area hospital where they died.
The child was identified as 12-year-old Laron Williams, who lived on E. Locust Avenue.
The shooting also claimed the life of 30-year-old Khalif Chambers, of Philadelphia, and 47-year-old Riley Darden of Norristown.
At least 12 shots were fired at the scene, according to police.
It was 2 p.m., and the child — just a year away from becoming a teenager — walked 50 feet from his East Germantown house to pick up lunch from the sweet woman on Crowson Street who cooks for the neighborhood children. He said goodbye to her, then walked back across the 700 block of East Locust Avenue, headed for home.
But as he did, a man armed with a rifle jumped out of a car up the block and started shooting down the street. At least 11 shots were fired. Two men, ages 47 and 30, were struck multiple times, and fell on top of one another, police said.
And Laron — known to friends and family as “L.J.” — was caught in the line of fire. He was shot in the back multiple times, police said, and collapsed at the base of the stairs of the home he’d lived in all his life. His parents held him until police arrived, and officers rushed him to Einstein Medical Center.
Happy birthday. RIP.

feel horrible for this kid and family that had to hold him as he bled out and died. getting your kids out of areas like this should be the most important goal in life for parents. not saying you cant get killed in the countryside, but you are on a better foot living in a relaxed peaceful rural area

People need to quit making excuses for criminals.
They have had the exact same if not more opportunities as everyone else and chose criminal behavior.
This is 2023, not 1850. We need to hold people accountable and quit coddling them and allowing this nonsense to happen in our communities.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
