I'd seen him in a couple of things before he was Superman so he made sense as the choice. I've never heard of this replacement and I have a feeling I won't hear about him after he plays Superman. Cavill's problem on a few sets has been how he doesn't agree with the writers and producers butchering source materials to unrecognizable garbage. He quit The Witcher for exactly that reason.

plus his Prime deal for war hammer sounds like it has potential since he is acting and a creator for it.

also, his mission impossible movie made more than 700 million on a 150mil budget.
meanwhile justice league was a trainwreck of a movie from start to finish that cost 300 million and only made high 600 mils.
