What's the end goal for trying to make kids smarter and smarter?
Yuppie parents busting their arses in careers trying to make sure their kids go to the best schools that offer advanced theoretical calculus 34...year long SAT tutoring, etc, etc.
I was watching Dave Ramsey and a guy called in saying they spend $80,000/year sending their under 5 year olds to the Harvard of daycares. Summers too. Sounded like the parents didn't even interact much with the kids.
But what's the overall goal?
Where does the constant intellectual competition end or lead to? Does it make a person more fulfilled and happier over the course of a lifetime?
Is perusing Jesus the real answer?

I feel like they are just using their resource to the best of their ability to set their kids up for as much success as possible in the future.
kind of seems like one of the most important things we could be spending money on.
Investing in our children.
I feel like this is just the normally understood appropriate thing to do.
Do you guys limit your kids advancement by not taking advantage of all the resources available?
It is throwing spaghetti at a wall. The end goal of “as successful as possible” is a chitty goal to set as it is super vague and undefined.
The kid could end up using it, or not.
But as a parent, what more important thing do you have to spend that money on?
You put it all in them. And you teach them to do the same.
We have to live for our kids. It isn’t a simple sacrifice here and there. Your life, your money, your sanity….it isn’t yours.

"Investing in our children is the most important thing we can do" is one of the most cringy things I hear. Eeek.

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

What should we want in this world? The love of our family? The love of God? A kind heart? To not have our desires and sense of fulfillment manipulated by a society/people that doesn't love us?

The girl is to make $20k a year passively.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I would stress the importance of taking extra care for development with your children when you do have these kinds of resources for them.
You have to take extra care to ensure they understand the value of work and earning things. I know way too many spoiled rich people who are absolute messes because they believe they can’t fail at anything, but they can’t even handle getting a flat tire without freaking out like the biggest pussy in the world.
They are not problem solvers. They do not keep their cool. Etc. They just have money and get what they want. Which is cool and good for them but man they are pussies.
Adversity makes a man. Prosperity makes a monster.
You can dedicate all your resources to your kids to set them up and still teach them this.
Like, yeah you are getting a private education and I will use everything I have to make your life as easy as possible, but you gonna figure out how to change your own bike chain and you gonna make your bed everyday.
You will absolutely be held accountable for selfish, harmful, disruptive behavior.
They don’t have to be spoiled brats.
But that takes work though. More work than just throwing money at it.

Sometimes it seems like the pursuit of the advantages, my child is the snartest, makes the most money, most athletic, etc can become a false idol in the pursuit of meeting what man says is fullfilling.

Could there be people out there that were pushed like slaves and make good money but could've otherwise been just as happy being an HVAC installer or something?
