I'm partially in a agreement with you, there is definitely some election strategy in play. There's nothing done by our elected government that can't have the same thing said about it though so it's kind of an irrelevant point.

As far as the "It's not faaaaaair" argument, I'm not hung up on the idea of fairness, I'd concede that nothing the government does is 100% fair to everyone.

The government making large loans easily available to jobless teenagers with relatively high interest rates that can't be discharged in bankruptcy is pretty retarded. There's worse ways to spend money than helping out people who are trying to make better lives for themselves, just like the restaurant owners we helped out with forgivable loans.

Without knowing specifics, yes. I don't have a fundamental problem with it. They probably fall under the public service loan forgiveness program anyways.

Here's my opinion on all this, the country seems to be going to chit with poor motivation, obesity, inadequate education, and worsening job prospects and such. While weeding out the fuktards to the extent possible, if we need to help pay for the motivated Americans with potential to learn to serve on the police force, or become plumbers or accountants or whatever I'm all for it. And I don't even care about politics or if helping smart people is "racist", give credit where credit is due to any R or D who can pull it off.

These recruits were 21 and older, FULLY legal adults, they took out a loan for the academy, and you believe their loan should be forgiven based on "Feelz?"

I wouldn't say based on feels. I want to have a good police force to protect my chit and want the same for you. I'm willing to chip in for that.

How about a performance based forgiveness? For example, earn a 3.1 GPA and get 10% forgiven, 3.2 then 20% and so on.

"Forgiveness" was never built into student loans. Unilateral action by the US President to bypass laws and send the country another $400 Billion into debt was never built into any law.

Because of the backlash when 100% of taxpayers finally realize they're footing the bill for the 13% of US adults carrying student loans...?

Simple solution. Strip the colleges of all their endowments to cover these loans instead.

I already said it was a dumb idea. I'm just pointing out that the GOP again is alienating the largest, and growing, voting block in the country. If this was in isolation no biggie, but combine it with banning abortion and making discrimination legal and now you have one party clearly working against the interests of young people.
