BREAKING: No student loan forgiveness

https://www.documentcloud.org/docume...-v-brown-et-al

Key quote here:
They [respondents] do not want debt forgiveness under the HEROES Act, which they claim is unlawful. They want debt forgiveness under the HEA. Nothing the Secretary has done deprives them of a “chance” to seek that result.
Read the ACTUAL opinion. The media have spun this that its republicans blocking forgiveness... Brown wanted to be INCLUDED in the relief from having private student loans that precluded them. Taylor said they should have received $20K instead of $10K.
The court basically says the Heroes act doesnt give the government legality to do it - but they are NOT saying forgiveness isn't possible, just the route Biden went doesnt grant him.

I heard this argument a year ago -- that using the Heroes Act was Fkn dumb. Biden again screwing up. Guess those diversity hires aren't working out.

SCOTUS decision proves that Biden promoted student loan debt relief to buy votes, because he knew it would not ultimately pass.

Student Loan Debt Relief was another massive hoax, but it does give the dems-liberals a lot of bullshiit to blame on the "illegitimate" Supreme Court.

Nailed it. Stood no chance and the dems knew that. Now they can blame the evil repubs while campaigning on the issue.

Honestly the MOST FAIR way to address student loans

1) Make all existing student loans 0% interest. Pay you principal back only, make it a 30-year plan. No issue with passing on the debt to taxpayers, while still providing relief. $50 towards the debt, goes to the debt rather than interest expense.

2) Fix college costs. However that needs to be done.

So what about those who paid theirs, or didn't get loans? Nothing fair about making everyone pay for those who took out debt.

Love all the uneducated tradies trash talking itt..

We need to fix the cost of education and not throw one time debt relief at the problem. One more thing the Dems will have to fix since the Reps literally do nothing other than give rich people and businesses tax breaks causing massive increases in our yearly deficits.

No way you typed that out with a straight face.

My last boss that recently retired, graduated college in the late 70s. He was able to pay his tuition for each year of school mowing lawns and working part time as a ticket seller at the local cinema.

By proportion the dollar simply went further back then. Is it normal and healthy for a society that in-state tuition at a State school cost $20k per semester?

And if people should only go to college if they can afford it, won't that widen the gap between the haves and the have-nots?

This may sound hyperbolic but I wouldn't leave this out as a possibility.

This ruling really gives off "winning the battle, but losing the inevitable (2024 elections) war.

They're causing people who otherwise wouldn't really be engaged in politics to become engaged and what they're going to do is vote blue.

Oddly the biggest beneficiaries of all of this are the democrats. They've got so much cannon fodder to launch at Republicans and all the GOP has are social issues and inflation (which is kinda making its upturn), and liberals are experts at ginnig up hatred, but now they don't even have to try.

Get rid of govt backed loans to universities.

Imagine telling a business that what ever you charge for your product and whoever you sell it to, the govt is going to guarantee payment.
