86% through, according to PS5 home page, will probably finish the game next week, been playing too much lol. Still hitting the gym though at least. Have one more eikon to go, then got all the ability unlocks at disposal.
Don't click unless you're around where I'm at.
Spoiler!
"Clive bested," as one of the level endings is kinda hilarious. The fact that Thamr doesn't just kidnap Clive after beating him twice now doesn't make too much sense to me, srs.
Would've been cool if this happened and he was held captive like the below, then it's up to The Phoenix to save him and possibly sacrifice along the way, enraging and awaking the maximum potential of Clive's Ifrit or something.

Got to the hideout last night after finally getting some consistent time in.
Really digging this game so far. Time to start side-questing.
Also, equipped the ability that does the eikon attacks automatically and actually think it's annoying AF now that im getting used to attacking and tossing things together.

On your note, yeah you can just go magic/sword back to back and its solid. Makes me think i need to just pound ability points on the magic so when im at distance i can just lob that at them.

What I have equipped is the ring of assistance which gets Torgal to auto-attack. Makes it a lot easier for me because micro-managing torgal while juggling your health potions is the worst fukkin mechanic. People better not be talking chit about Atreus in GOW after this game lol.
After the Hugo battle I also equipped the slow-down ring before an attack that allows me to dodge, because the combat system is kinda getting a bit stale for now esp with the sidequests and constant arena's of enemies ....

Beat the game, took 36 hours. I wasted probably 8 hours on side quests btw. I did literally every one. Skipped dialogue, eventually skipped cut scenes during them, all it did was suck up my time lol. Would recommend solely doing the "+" side quests for the potion buff, unlocking chocobo, and some other upgrades.
Didn't do half of the hunt board, didn't do any of the eikon trials.
The story, cinematics, graphics, will probably make this game a GOTY for everybody, not that there's too much competition this year. Diablo 4 will get more hours out of me than FFXVI ever will, but that's just because of the nature of online ARPGs and the seasonal content and chit.
Ending spoilers below, got some thoughts on the ending. Don't read if you haven't finished yet
Spoiler!
Joshua's last words about how Clive has faith, in himself and from others, is what makes him more powerful than Ultima. One of the examples he stated is Jill's faith for Clive to come back. Yet after victory, Clive knowingly sacrifices himself for the better world and basically disregards that Jill-related faith in the end.
Touching ending when the flame eikon star disappears and Jill watches it go away. Then the sun comes out. I guess the idea is the brightness of the Sun reminds Jill (and Torgal) that Clive's "still there" in a spiritual/heart kinda way. But still sucks. Not the happiest ending we'd want, but it's heart aching and impactful.
I dislike that the game gives no warning prior to entering Origin that you'd be finishing the game - but I guess it doesn't matter because after beating it you create a save which takes place before the events of Origin (and can then replay origin in arcade mode, or just move on to NG+).
Clive dying at the end solidifies the lack of DLC, but we already heard the devs saying there wouldn't be any FFXVI DLCs.
I said this before, and I'll say it again, the fact that Barnabas beats Clive TWICE, and doesn't kidnap him or something made zero sense to me. The first time made sense because Jill put up a fight to give time for him to reach safety. The second time though, he just teleports out - lol.
I rate it a 8.5-9/10 overall, but 10/10 story. The game gives the players a lot of choice with the eikons/abilities, but the RPG, crafting, looting, felt pointless. The combat triangle archetype is non-existent which is obviously intended but I would've liked a "mage" or "archer" combat style choice (not just relevant eikons while still needing to melee as the primary). There's performance issues, bad framerates and the sort at times. Awkward jank that happens in the non-cinematic in-game dialogue and such. And a lot of the side quests felt uninspired or predictable... with some diamonds in the rough here and there. Getting through them felt more like a chore with usually lackluster prizes at the end of it all. The main story makes you care though. I sometimes felt like the main story might've been too long for its own good though, like maybe if there was one less zone/nation/eikon, it would've felt like less of a slog. The game's probably 25-30 hours long if you just beeline the story (unlike me). Then I guess you can double that if you play NG+. And maybe add another 10-20 if you actually do all the eikon trials, hunts, and pay attention to every side quest.
I think the things that bother me about the game (particularly lack of care for the RPG/crafting/looting/economy) will prevent me from messing with NG+ and just consider the chapter closed at this point.
Definitely worth the money. And I can't think of a game with a more gripping story in recent years... that I finished at least.

Acts 2 and 3 are 33 years old, quests 27-68.
You're about half way there in terms of main story quest count. But you'll find lots of hunts, and a dramatic increase in side quests, start to pop up. So if you do all of that then you're still under half way.
At the PS5 home page, when you view the game, one of the numbers it shows in the game info is how far you are into it, as a %. Really small number on the right.
Looks like this (not my picture, found in Google):

Finally got some time to play.
Game opens up quite a bit when you get Jill in your team. The open areas look great.
I just beat the "Shadow" in the lower ancient temple place.
Between that battle and the Garuda battle, haven't had my PS5 overheat yet. And I probably played like 8-9 hours straight lol
Starting to get a hang of the battle. I usually suck at action game but instead of button mashing, I went about the game like a fighting game and hitting buttons to go into certain combos. Using Controller Type C. Garuda's grappling hook move is so much better than Pheonix's fire dash thing.
I am also playiglng on Graphics mode. Ive pretty much gotten used to it and the motion blur doesn't affect me anymore. I'll probably stick with graphics mode to the end.

When you walk into the nurse’s office and Jill is sitting there topless…
Jill rising up the ranks of FF girls for me.
Just did the Titan fight last night. Was crazy.
