A man born in '65 is Gen-X....so is a man born in '80. A lot of young adults are kids of gen-x. Millenial parents born in early 80's have kids that are young teenagers now. So it is safe to say GEN-X are the parents of the kids in college/just hitting work force today.

An old dude started talking to me at the bar the other day. Was talking about colleges for his kid and chit, said the kid didn't have good grades.

I asked him "why doesn't he go to San Diego State?" "Too competitive now, none of the local kids can get in."

San Diego State is an ASU level party school. Kids playing beer pong in the streets kind of place.

If the fukking Cal State party schools start getting picky, it is well and truly over for zoomercels.

Imagine gunning hard and studying 7 days a week in high school, just to get into a third rate college, just to rack up $50k in student loan debt, just to have 80% of your income go to taxes, rent, and loan payments when you finish. LDAR looks extremely appealing at that point.

San Diego State was impacted when I was in college. So is Cal State SLO. It's because San Diego is an ideal location and SLO is halfway for the SoCal students and the NorCal students. It's not the same as Cal State Bakersfield.

And I graduated from a Cal State school and ended up with a internship and then hired back at one of the top companies in the world. No student debt as I was on scholarship. So much for "third rate". But yes, there were a lot of opportunities for Gen Xs 30 years ago. But still, I'm working with Gen Zs now so they are getting hired, it's just ridiculous to pay rent in the Bay Area now.

The incentive to NEETmaxxing is focusing on yourself, your own happiness, not on the external of being a cog in the system, just for the happiness of the system.

But what happens when that savings runs out? Shouldn't the savings be kept for retirement?

I know it sucks to work until retirement age, but then you'd be stuck on social security and it's hard to live on that income.
