37 years old here, wife and I are working on our first of 2 or 3 kids.
Everyone is full of sh*t coping about their worthless lives.
I'm fit as a fiddle, have plenty of neices and nephews that I "can keep up with"
The only thing they have on me is a lack of energy conservation. They'll go nuts until they're gassed while I just walk calmly around.
If I ever turn it up to 50% they know who the real power is around here.
I guess there are 2 things they have on me ... persistence.
They'll think something is funny and will do it 1,000 times if it keeps being funny. I get bored after 2 or 3 times. In which case I just say no more and then that's that

I call BS too. It's not that you can't keep up, but you're probably not as playful of a person in your 40s regardless of what shape you're in. After you've had more than one kid you're not as motivated to go down the slide at the local playground for a 177th time pretending it's fun for you too.
Yeah Buddyyy! Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

For her birthday, we had a playground built (swings, slide, trampoline, see saw, roundabout, jungle gym, a horse on a spring that you ride and some other stuff, along with the safety flooring etc).
It was finished yesterday and half my time has been spent pushing her on the swings since then. Every time I try and get anything done, it's "dada swings" with a huge grin on her face.
I may have made a rod for my own back, but I'd rather that than worry about what is on the ground at the local playground.

Oldest turns 17 next month, youngest is 4. As an aside, lol at me for giving a serious response to a thread created by a red but this is a subject I have experience with so here we are. With that out of the way, there are definite challenges associated with being an older parent. Sleepless nights with a baby are harder. Frank's right, too, you lose a lot of playfulness.
I'm in great shape. I lift and play basketball a couple times a week. My oldest is gearing up for fall cross country and I ran 8 miles with him on Monday. It was fun and I'm glad I'm in good enough condition to do that kind of stuff with him. I got to spend an hour plus with him, just the two of us, and that time is priceless. However, he turned around and did it again Tuesday (and will again today), while I needed extra time for recovery. When my 4-year-old is a teenager, I plan to be able to run with her. People leave a lot on the table with respect to body performance as they age, but there are real differences - sleep and recovery being big ones. Healing from injuries is another. Ankle sprains definitely don't heal as fast as they used to.

PS. I'm 43 and I still run laps around my 17 year old.
I don't think I really started outdoing my dad until he hit his 60's.

First was born when I was 26 and my youngest was born when I was 39. I wouldn't say it was night and day between the two babies, but for me it was clearly easier physically as a young dad. I think it was even more true for my wife.

As soon as she was born, I went from indifferent to doting dad in a heartbeat.
There are pros and cons to the age thing. In my case, I reduced the hours I worked from 80 to 40 and my wife and I each WFH half of the week so that we are always there for her. We have the money and the patience that we didn't have as younger people, which lets us, in our particular case, be better parents that we would have been when younger.

It's not that my dad was strong than me or I am stronger than my son, it's just my dad could push himself way harder than I could, and now my son has to learn how to push himself.

People severely underestimate how agile an old timer can be if they live an active lifestyle, srs. The meme of brittle bones isn't really true. My 70 year old dad can casually spring up the porch that's two feet high outside w/o using the steps. Meanwhile miscers feel a tiny bit weaker than they were in their youth and instantly want to give up. Joebidenshakinghead.gif
