Amazing how cheap a person can live in America with no debt and paid off house

All you have to do is not get sucked into materialism/consumerism.

I live 15 min outside a city of 1M+, 3 hours to the beach, 2 hours to the mountains.

I'll use some of my bills as an example...

house paid off $0/month
power bill ~$100/month (last month $85)
water ~$60/month
property tax ~$125/month
cell phone $15/month
internet $20/month
home insurance ~$55/month

That's ***$375/month*** plus a few other things like gasoline for my truck/inspection, but you get the idea.

Food in another expense but can can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. You can buy pretty hearty foods at the grocery store and eat relatively healthy cooking at home. Fruit, milk, eggs, nuts, pasta, yogurt, etc, etc.

Idk how people manage $100 electricity bills. My electricity bill is usually around give or take $190.

That's pretty cheap.

Modest house in DFW.

property tax + home insurance: $560/month
power bill: $200/month
water: $100/month
cell phone: $30/month
internet: $60/month

That's $950 a month without a mortgage, transportation, food, medical, etc.

ETA: house is also under 1500 sq. ft.

I don't care about living beachfront or on the side of a mountain....just like to be able to drive there relatively quickly when i want...i don't driving longer than 5 hours.

3 hours to the beach is not relatively quickly. thats your whole day wasted on driving roundtrip.

I paid $15-20 for five years in California, Spectrum. If they had it in Nebraska I would have brought it with me. I think it's DSL and honestly didn't need much.

Cell phone I had was $20 a month with Republic cheap as fuk plan. I've needed more internet lately, but there's even better plans today with more that are near as cheap.

Miscers check out MrMoneyMustache if this life is unbelievable. There's a whole community doing the early retirement thing. I couldn't do it but did optimize life around living cheap and have supported my family on one income with wife staying home on $60-65k a year.

You must live in the middle of nowhere OP. I’ll admit I’m jelly over your property taxes. The schools in my area are some of the best ranked in New Jersey but a portion of my property taxes go to schools with low graduation rates. I live about 1.5 hours from Philly and about 1.5 - 2 hrs from the beach. Beach time depends on where I go and also seasonal traffic.

If you want to live comfortably in the US your expense is 2k/month.

I've calculated it all already.

Its still pretty expensive because making 1k/month isn't easy.

This is more or less my plan. House with 10-20 acres in Arkansas is doable for under $250k. Gotta be careful about area, just read all about Pine Bluffs yesterday lol, holy crap I don't think I've seen such universal revulsion.

Yes. When I looked about 6 years ago they wanted $800 a month for a marketplace plan for my age. Then there was a big deductible, co-pays, etc.

You gotta have a house(at least 1000-1500sqft). Rent/mortage is already $500-800 in a rough neighborhood but not too rough so its the bare minimum. That leaves you with $1200 for other basics.

3 hours is nothing...especially when you're retired and only want to go a couple times in the summer. Keeps it special.
