Checking the veracity of the paper is probably beyond most people here including OP. The problem is that it's posted with the implication that people should modify their behavior or cower in fear. This is nonsense - JLC and the rest of the Covid Karens are pathetic for worrying about it becausethe shots don't work, and masks don't work. If you haven't had COVID, you'll get it in the future. What exactly is the implication of this paper for your average person?

There are, of course, problems with the study. For example,
We prospectively evaluated the first consecutive 100 PNP and 500 NNP patients who were SARS CoV-2 + at the Neuro-COVID-19 clinic of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois, between May of 2020 and August 2021....The opening of the clinic was announced on a webpage as customary at our institution for all new clinics,17 without further advertising. Patients were able to schedule an appointment without physician referralfor in-person or televisits based on their preference on a first-come-first-served basis, regardless of their geographic location in the United States.Since long COVID was a new syndrome that was not yet defined, we accepted patients complaining of any type of neurologic manifestations associated with SARS-COV-2 infection. Our only exclusion criteria were absence of any neurologic symptoms (e.g., patients complaining only of shortness of breath after COVID-19).
So their inclusion criteria were self-selected. They set up shop in Chicago, which is jam-packed full of hypochondriac COVID Karens, and selected people who found an unadvertised web pagewithout a referral from a medical professional. This is a recipe for psycho****tic effects - first, people Googling themselves to a terminal diagnosis to find the page in the first place, then the confirmation bias associated with actually finding your symptoms though the disease is "not yet defined" per the authors.

Second, the group sizes are wildly different (5:1) which violates the assumptions of some of the statistical tests used.

Back to the groups: 40% of the non-PASC group had depression / anxiety as apre-existing comorbidity. 40 ****ing percent. Like I said, these areCOVID Karens. This is not a representative sample at all.

None of their imaging studies produced significant results. Inflammation markers were higher in the hospitalized group, which makes sense.

The cognitive test results are suspect due to the 5:1 difference in sample sizes.

The principal components analysis produced clusters that were essentially on top of one another. In that type of test you want to look for separation if, in fact, it exists. Here it does not. There are not two clear groups emerging in the PCA.

The correlations are completely insignificant. an R^2 value of .03 means that the effect explains 3% of the variance here, scientists would conclude there is no relationship here.

There are a million problems with this study, and JLC is still a total ****ing cuck.

I asked Opie how they defined headaches, and how they were able to contribute a headache of a subject to “long Covid” instead of any of the countless other things that cause millions of headaches every day. He refused to answer the question.

I also pointed out how useless the cognition tests were since the subjects were not given the same cognition test before getting Covid. There is no precovid baseline to compare the test results to. I said because of that, all those tests really show is that older people generally score slightly lower on cognition tests. I asked Opie what he thought the cognition test results meant. After dodging the question for a few pages he eventually said
I think the battery reported in the study lends corroborating support to the organic signs of covid infection and PCS.
Also, the study does not differentiate between people who received the Covid injection and those who didn’t. In the hospitalized group, 33% of participants had received the injection and almost half in the non-hospitalized group(45%) had received the injection. All but 1 had received the injection after getting infected. So out of those subjects how do we determine what was caused by “long Covid” and which are side effects from the injection? There are lots of problems with the study, but Opie seems to have moved on to pushing the “long Covid” narrative and since that study helps with that he shares it(even though he for some reason refuses to answer certain questions about the study). He has even shared studies that conclude over 17% of people who get Covid have symptoms two years later. Not because of how legit the study is, but rather just because it helps his narrative.

Yes, their patients were all ****ed up before COVID. 40% had depression and anxiety. These were COVID KARENS, just like you cuckboy.

The study sucks, and you suck for posting it. Feel bad, loser.

We also identified independent predictors of any neurologic manifestations, encephalopathy, and functional outcome using binary logistic regression."

"Neurologic manifestations were present at Covid-19 onset in 215 (42.2%), at hospitalization in 319 (62.7%), and at any time during the disease course in 419 patients (82.3%). The most frequent neurologic manifestations were myalgias (44.8%), headaches (37.7%), encephalopathy (31.8%), dizziness (29.7%), dysgeusia (15.9%), and anosmia (11.4%). Strokes, movement disorders, motor and sensory deficits, ataxia, and seizures were uncommon (0.2 to 1.4% of patients each). Severe respiratory disease requiring mechanical ventilation occurred in 134 patients (26.3%). Independent risk factors for developing any neurologic manifestation were severe Covid-19 (OR 4.02; 95% CI 2.04–8.89; P < 0.001) and younger age (OR 0.982; 95% CI 0.968–0.996; P = 0.014). Of all patients, 362 (71.1%) had a favorable functional outcome at discharge (modified Rankin Scale 0–2). However, encephalopathy was independently associated with worse functional outcome (OR 0.22; 95% CI 0.11–0.42; P < 0.001) and higher mortality within 30 days of hospitalization (35 [21.7%] vs. 11 [3.2%] patients; P < 0.001)."

Persistent neurologic symptoms and cognitive dysfunction in non-hospitalized Covid-19 “long haulers”

"This is a prospective study of the first 100 consecutive patients (50 SARS-CoV-2 laboratory-positive (SARS-CoV-2+) and 50 laboratory-negative (SARS-CoV-2-) individuals) presenting to our Neuro-Covid-19 clinic between May and November 2020. Due to early pandemic testing limitations, patients were included if they met Infectious Diseases Society of America symptoms of Covid-19, were never hospitalized for pneumonia or hypoxemia, and had neurologic symptoms lasting over 6 weeks. "

"Mean age was 43.2 ± 11.3 years, 70% were female, and 48% were evaluated in televisits. The most frequent comorbidities were depression/anxiety (42%) and autoimmune disease (16%). The main neurologic manifestations were: “brain fog” (81%), headache (68%), numbness/tingling (60%), dysgeusia (59%), anosmia (55%), and myalgias (55%), with only anosmia being more frequent in SARS-CoV-2+ than SARS-CoV-2- patients (37/50 [74%] vs. 18/50 [36%]; p < 0.001). Moreover, 85% also experienced fatigue. There was no correlation between time from disease onset and subjective impression of recovery. Both groups exhibited impaired quality of life in cognitive and fatigue domains. SARS-CoV-2+ patients performed worse in attention and working memory cognitive tasks compared to a demographic-matched US population (T-score 41.5 [37, 48.25] and 43 [37.5, 48.75], respectively; both p < 0.01)."

"Non-hospitalized Covid-19 “long haulers” experience prominent and persistent “brain fog” and fatigue that affect their cognition and quality of life."

"Of 52 patients who completed the study (27 SARS-CoV-2+, 25 SARS-CoV-2−) a median 14.8 (range 11–18) months after symptom onset, mean age was 42.8 years, 73% were female, and 77% were vaccinated for SARS-CoV-2. Overall, there was no significant change in the frequency of most neurologic symptoms between first and follow-up evaluations, including “brain fog” (81 vs. 71%), numbness/tingling (69 vs. 65%), headache (67 vs. 54%), dizziness (50 vs. 54%), blurred vision (34 vs. 44%), tinnitus (33 vs. 42%), and fatigue (87 vs. 81%).
