Most are going to blame it on the Roe v Wade ruling. And that had something to do with it, yes. But it wasn't the main reason.

Democrats were ahead in pretty much every poll in all of 2021, and then the GOP pulled ahead by a couple points in 2022. Once Roe was overturned, the polling became even, and then the GOP slightly pulled ahead again as the election got nearer.

In such a chit economy and political environment for the Democrats, the GOP should have been up by +8 to +10 in early 2022, and the Roe decision would have knocked them back to like +6 or so. But in reality, they were only up by around +2-3, so the Roe decision knocked them back to dead heat with the Democrats.

So yeah Roe did have some impact, but there was definitely something else that was keeping the Democrats ahead in the polls for all of 2021, and that kept the GOP's lead to a minimum for all of 2022.

Remember, the GOP did great in 2021. They won Virginia and would've won New Jersey if they knew it was that close. The Democrats only started to overperform in elections after Roe.

It was Roe v. Wade overturn + Trump nutters that did them in. They MAY have been able to survive Roe if they weren't running morons like Walker, Lake, Masters, Oz, etc. etc.

Lake only lost by like 0.5 points. So imagine if she didn't tell McCain voters not to vote for her. She probably wins. But Trumpers are not known for their strategy.

Honestly, the fact Trump does so well despite being an absolute nutjob is the most frustrating aspect of it all. If he gained some sanity and strategy he'd easily win. It's his attitude that does him in.

In 2020, all the close states changed the rules to allow ballot harvesting. Republicans will not win any statewide elections in close states ever again.
This is why in 2022 Republicans did ok in Congressional races, but did not do well in Sentate races. This is why Biden will get reelected in 2024.

Republicans had a higher national turnout -- 51% Repubs vs 48% Dems.

7% of Biden 2020 voters who came out in 2022 voted Republican vs 3% of Trump 2020 were voted Democrat in 2022

What killed Republicans is that a lot of Republican voters split their tickets and voted for Democrats for Senate and governor (but not House). The suggestion is that Republicans weren't happy with candidates like Kari Lake, Blake Masters, and others, and all of them were closely tied to Trump.

If you were rational, you would look at what you did wrong and work on fixing those issues to win the next time.

But Trumpers are low IQ and incapable of that.

Republicans underperformed in the House too. Only got 221 seats - people were expecting 231+. They had to vote 18 times to get a Speaker lol.

Republicans got their chit pushed in and they learned nothing from it. The Democrat Party is now the sole national party in the USA.

They picked up 9 seats in the House on a 2.8% popular vote margin

In 2014, they picked up 13 seats in the House on a 5.7% popular vote margin

So 2022 midterms, for the House Repubs, was just a shade worse than 2014. Not so horrible

2.8% vs 5.7% is a big difference.
