I mean, he's in the top 20. That's making it pretty good, isn't it? Will he ever be a top 5 or #1? No. Win a slam? Very slim shot at a magical run at RG, but at Wimbledon? Never.

“I think the one who has managed to play at a better level and do more difficult things is Federer, the one who has won the most is Djokovic and if we told Rafael everything he hasn’t played due to injury,he probably would have won more than the others.” —Toni Nadal

Bonus Uncle Toni: “Well, Djokovic is better because he has won more titles than Rafael. Although we are going to establish a series of things:we live on a circuit where we always play on a hard court. My nephew always plays three Grand Slams on the surface that is not going well for him and one on the surface that is going well for him.”

2011 he was healthy and he lost 6 straight finals to Djokovic. In a few weeks it will mark 10 years since Nadal last beat Djokovic off clay and 10 years since he last took a set off Djokovic on a hard court.

If Djokovic wins tomorrow he'll be 18-1 in Wimbledon and Australian Open finals. Federer and Nadal never reached a level of dominance like that.

Bruh the cope from Uncle Toni was hilarious to read. Who is this guy trying to fool? Only Nadal fanboys would eat that crap up. I'll never forget in 2011 when Novak dominated Nadal on clay. Honestly, it was a little unbelievable. But it makes sense looking back, it was just the GOAT starting his insane run.

Hilarious to me how they still try and stop Novak. That hinderance call would never happen to Federer or Nadal on centre court. I really hope Novak stays at the top for another 1-2 years, more so just to see these haters come up with even more ridiculous cope scenarios.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

Looks like his glorious time is over-even if he comes back to win this is like Nadal in the 2007 final & a year later usurping Federer.

That tiebreak was huge. He goes down 2 sets to love and it's over. Full credit to Alcaraz. He did what Nadal and Federer couldn't do in the last decade — beat Djokovic at Wimbledon.

Nadal is cooked. Can't see him adding to his tally. Djokovic should have another AO title in him if he can maintain this level — US Open hasn't been a happy hunting ground.

After a "next generation" of cannon fodder it's nice to see a young player believe enough he can reach the summit.

Well played Carlito.

Joker won his first slam at the same age, Alcaraz has two already. Joker at 20 was a long way behind Federer & Nadal, Alcaraz is number one & is improving all the time. He is now better on grass than Joker, would have likely beaten him at RG if not for the stomach problems. US Open is the wide open one that any of the top players can win & Aussie is the only one that looks guaranteed for Joker to win again. I think Alcaraz will end up with more slams than Joker-he already has two & has another 20 odd years left.

Incredible match. Who from next gen is going to match Carlos at Grand Slams? Sinner and Rune seem miles behind just like everyone has been miles behind Djokovic. If Djokovic tapers off, I'm not sure how Carlos doesn't just go on a GS tear the next 3-4 years. Dude can legit have 10+ GS by 25.

I'm not expecting Djoker to go away for at least 2-3 years, but it doesn't seem like anyone else is capable of beating these 2, except maybe Medvedev on a good day.

Rune will be the main threat-but he needs to dump his mother from his camp & improve his attitude. Possibly getting shot of her would improve it quite a bit as she seems as a big a drama queen as him & winds him up.

I doubt Djokovic will beat Alcaraz ever again in a slam. Once the younger star (way younger in this case) starts winning, it's usually curtains for the older guy.

And Alcaraz hit like 65 winners or something versus Novak's 32. He reminds me more of Federer but with a two hander.

Djokovic might win one more but I legit think Alcaraz will clean up the tour next year onwards and that he has a very good chance to win the Calendar Slam in 2024/2025.

Carlos is 47-4 this year; that's like peak Federer or peak Djokovic numbers.

I'm okay with that. Young players beating older players used to be the norm. Three very special players disrupted that for a while but this is what's supposed to be happening. Novak isn't done yet and he had his chances to win this but like he said it all evens out — he was match points down in 2019. I'm sure he's grateful to still be playing at such a high level. Maybe the effort that went into winning RG cost him a few percent at Wimbledon. The pressure to stay up for all these slam wins is enormous.

As for Alcaraz I don't know how anyone couldn't like the guy. Balls of f-ing steel today. Deserved it.

why is everyone acting surprised a generational talent beat a 36 year old. this is what should be happening but we've had 3 of the greatest players of all time an 2 straight generations of mugs. this may have happened at the french too if alcaraz didn't cramp. playing djokovic a few more times is gonna do wonders for alcaraz mental game. i don't see anyone matching in the near future. spain is lucky to have another champ with rafa seemingly on his way out now

I was as surprised as Andrew Castle was, that every player & pundit he talked to said Alcaraz stood no chance in the final. I think that has been the problem in Tennis the last 15 years or so-putting Fed, Nadal & a bit later Joker on crazy pedestals-as some immortal beings with sycophantic platitudes being given to them non-stop. Simply Joker's time as the top guy has gone-he will still be a big force for a few more seasons & I expect him to win more tour titles & slams-at least the Aussie, but Alcaraz is only going to get better.

Same thing with Rune who like Alcaraz is able to keep coming back & has a lot of fighting spirit & like Connors, no matter how fit Djokovic is a guy in his late thirties isn't going to be able to outrun guys in their twenties over the course of a tournament.

Novak is always a class act in defeat but this is worth listening to. He rates Alcaraz very highly and says he hasn't faced anyone like him before.

I like Alcaraz' style. The kid can play all court tennis and is already a legit threat on 3 different surfaces.

Same result would have happened a month back if Alcaraz kept his nerves together in Paris and didn't cramp.

One thing to note is that for the most part, Djokodal didn't have any 5 year younger ATGs chasing them.

Federer really is a giant for transitioning multiple eras all the way into one that is a baseline grinding slugfest whilst somewhat maintaining that attacking game and having good results despite being chased by younger lions. Speaks volumes about his mental toughness for which he doesn't get enough credit.

What Federer did ending Novak's 43 match streak at RG in 2011, beating him at 2012 Wimbledon as a 29/30 year old and going 5-0 against Nadal off clay in 2017-19 as a 35+ year old geriatric including a few straight set beatdowns are giant anomalies in tennis.

Yeah the commentors feed in the hype. I've heard on the US broadcast they say things like this is the best version of djokovic we have seen.. like go watch the 2012 aus open final and tell me that. I understand why they are doing it, they don't want be like yeah Djokovic is still great but one of the reasons he is winning is because these young guys suck, but casual fans actually believe this chit lol

Watched the first set and thought it was over before it started. I guess Alcaraz stopped making all the unforced errors.

Kind of want to watch the fifth because it sounds like it was epic.

That's pretty unfair. No he wasn't mentally on Novak's level but no matter how talented you are you don't win 20 slams being mentally weak. Even in his twilight years he had enough mental strength to come back from a break down in the 5th set to beat Bull at the Convict Open.

As for Djokovic he was in the same situation a couple of years ago losing to Medvedev in the US Open final. Clueless people were saying he was done. Then he was screwed over by the Australian government and blocked by Biden. He's since won 3 slams out of 5 entered. The guy lost 6-4 in the 5th set of a 5 hour match — he wasn't blown off the court. He's far from finished.

You might want to develop some reading comprehension before pointing fingers. Federer is born in 1981 whilst Djokodal are born in 1986/87. So, that's a 5 year gap.

Contrary to popular belief that Nadal is some mental titan and fighter, the dude is actually decimating people on court at his best so that's hardly some barometer of mental strength.

Here's a couple of good stats for you that put a huge dent in the theory that Nadal is some god as a fighter that never gives up:

- Matches won at slams when 2-0 down in sets: Federer - 9/38, Djokovic - 7/28, Nadal - 3/25
- Number of career retirements: Djokodal - 10+, Federer - 0
Calories In, Calories Out.

Impressive performance from Alcaraz, he's the real deal. Djoko's not done yet but it's gonna get tougher every slam.

By far his biggest show of mental strength. Most of his GS finals wins were over dudes he should have beaten. Dude lost 3 GS matches to Djokovic where he had match points.. almost unheard of.

To your second point, yeah but you never know at that age. Fed in 2019 was 1 point from winning Wimbledon, next thing you know he's done. Nadal won 2 slams last year, and less than 1 year later looks to be on his way out.
