Lol Disney might be the biggest waste of money that people feel obligated to do. Couldn't imagine paying on a loan for years for that few weeks trudging through an amusement park.

Naw...you can still do it. Just budget accordingly. And the mortgage is locked in whereas their $60k is likely to increase with time.

They could certainly make it, but wouldn't be "living like a king" - especially if they're trying to save at all for retirement.

I'd get sick of steak everyday...maybe once or twice a week. Not that expensive to buy a few steaks and toss them on the grill along with some corn/asparagus. Eating relatively healthy isn't too expensive and throwing more money at it doesn't really equal more healthy.

How much do you really need for retirement to support people that lived on $60k and by retirement won't even have their biggest expense the mortgage? My aunt has her house paid for and retired with about $500k invested. She does everything she wants to do.

500k is not even bad especially if your mortgage is paid. Most people retire with less than 50k and rent lol.

See, you aren't in a position to give folks financial advice.

You have spent 10 years with this shtick. It reeks of regret

Some of their long time friends were going to the beach for a long weekend and they really wanted to go but had no money.

He said "it's all good, we'll just pay it off quick"....borrowed $1000 from one of those short term/high interest loan companies....not quite a payday loan, but not a bank.

Same guy.....I chit you not......texted me today and asked what maintenance he could do on his Jeep himself to save some money. Said the dealer told him his rotors needed to be resurfaced.....he asked me how to do that, how to rotate his tires, where his cabin filter was and how hard it was to change the oil. I haven't texted him back yet.

OP… you’re describing “getting by”.

Your definition of “living like kings” needs to be reevaluated.
You have my word as a Schons.

Kings. getting by is just renting...not owning a home in the best location in the world...US south.

you pay rent each month to get by to the next month.
