"Remodeling/updating" a house is the biggest waste I ever heard of

Unless it's broke...

- waste of resources

- shows how most people conform to what's popular...how wow, granite -- how unique.

- waste of money

- sounds like something a cucked husband would worry about

literally WOULD NOT care if my ENTIRE house had 60s era wood paneling and avocado green appliances. don't like it? don't look.

Depends on the remodeling and the reason. Personally, I like the look of those midcentury houses, but it tanks the resale value of most properties. The bathroom in The Shining reminded me of one in my house.

As do a lot of rooms from that movie.

LOL at people that spend a bundle remodeling to make their house look cookie cutter and "increase the value" yet they sell it 10-15 years later when their remodel crap isn't even in style anymore....and wears out faster than the original stuff the house came with.

I don't entirely disagree with you. I've been doing my best to maintain original portions of the house as much as possible. The quality is way better than what you see in cookie cutter houses. Sad to see so many of these houses knocked down for cheaper, more fashionable ones. Maintenance is a constant issue though.

Same. My intire kitchen appliances are 1950's on purpose, so the rest of the kitchen followed that. 20+ years later everything is trouble free. Fuk updating.

Nah. I spent a bunch on remodeling the first few years of living in my house.

Entirely new kitchen
2 entirely redone bathrooms/showers
Repainted entire house
Sanded and refinished wood flooring
Back yard leveled out and all landscaping redone
Privacy fence installed

My home truly felt like MY home after that. It was worth every penny knowing I'm not using the same bathroom as the person who owned it before me.

It's not always about what you can afford. You have to pick and choose what is worth updating, and what has lasting value. There's a midcentury fireplace in my house surrounded by a huge marble wall that I would be an idiot to redo. It's awesome as it is.

There were salmon colored sinks that definitely needed to go. A lot of older design is still applicable today, but you have to know what has lasting value.

Would never remodel major things like kitchen or bathrooms. I'm not vain enough to care about colors of countertops or sinks. Same with flooring, who cares?

Have clients that are currently redoing a room. No extra square feet or features, just the same room with a different floor, maybe slightly nicer windows and change the fireplace. Costing them 20k to basically have a slightly nicer room.

I bought a house a year ago, redid the kitchen and 3 bathrooms, and I'm now selling that house for $240k more than I paid for it. But you're right OP, big waste.

Spoiler!
House is currently under contract, over asking, and the buyer waved all contingencies.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Of course if you're buying a house to make what plebs will want.....you uhhh...cater to their wants. Thank you for insightful insight.

Yeah remodelling a house is a waste of time and money

It’s not as if people would pay tradies in cash and buy materials in cash to fix and flip houses as a massive money laundering scheme

I was surprised he didn’t post earlier. This dude made a killing in exactly what this thread is about. The housing market is a wild thing.

I do demolition/subdivision and new builds as opposed to remodels. But if I had less capital available to me, and more free time, I would do renovations.

The OP thinks he's trolling with these threads - but doesn't realize that the true Lords of the Land here are the ones laughing.

He has spent a decade of his life posting here and elsewhere to try to convince himself that he made the right choices in life. Yet he can't even afford to take care of his kid(s).

Trash human being, lol.
