Think about it. Do you know a single female who has to be inventive to cook a meal because she cant afford to eat out or buy microwave stuff? They have to make stuff from their garden or use old food scraps to make something tasty and nutritious? Have you ever heard of a person doing that today? Everyone did that back then.
The economy has become extremely polarized

You have people who bought houses in 2014, who Refinanced in 2020, who have a 1000 mortgage on a 2500 square foot place while making 120K household income. They're in a good to great position

And then you have new married couples trying to buy their first house who are being raked over the coals

nobody is arguing that it's impossible to get ahead - the point is the difficulty level now is 100x harder than ever before

the current generation of first time house buyers and car buyers are getting raked over the coals. You have yet to address this issue

not everybody can live in bum fuk alabama. I live in Illinois and an old chitty single family house here is 380K with 8K property taxes. That's like a 3500 payment. How does a couple afford that and get ahead financially unless they're making 200K? Not everyone can make 200k. Plenty of people just don't have the talent or ability to get very high paying careers

NYC is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not talking about that

If you're a young first time home buyer, you're looking at a 8-10K mortgage in NYC. You're not affording that unless you make 30K a month. Majority of country is not quite that bad but it's still pretty fcking awful. People 10 years ago were getting mortgages for 900 a month. Now u pay 2700 for a total dump

My pay hasn't risen much since the early 2000s, but that also could be due to the Mom factor of stepping out of the career workforce to a part-time job for a few years.

Still, with inflation adjusted, my hourly rate would be much higher today and I obviously have a lot moar experience.

You post some scary items, Katya. I really don't want to go through 2008-11 again.

Ehhh, I have a number of stories of problems with homeschooling and why people opt in to putting their kids in a school after years of homeschool. Mine always went to a Christian private school. Thankfully now that she's in college tuition will be much cheaper.

They don’t develop their social skills when they’re homeschooled. Plus once they get to high school or college they go wild after living a sheltered life.

old wives tale to scare people into the benefits of public school indoctrination. plenty of ways to give a child socialization outside of public schools.

LOL my 2 teens are probably the most well-adjusted individuals I've ever seen in my life; involved in sports, musical instruments etc etc, they socialize in person with friends every single day(neither has ever had a cellphone)

They act 10 years older than they are

No cell phone too. Dang brother you doing it right! Homeschool and no cellphone are what I'd tell anyone with children (along with church life of course). If most of these people ain't telling you you're doing something wrong...well, you're doing something wrong.

I’m just saying from my personal experience, but I believe in private Christian schools. Public schools are too woke in my area.

In schools kids learn how to work together in groups. They also don’t go crazy when they are exposed to partying.

You can’t lock your kids in a closet to hide them from the big, bad world.

Pretty much everyone I know either home schools or sends their kids to a private school.

Good luck supporting a wife who home schools as well. Then you’re paying a lot of alimony if she divorces you.

Home schooled children have access to group learning activities with other home schooled children. They also play sports in local leagues, YMCAs, etc.

Many home school families are active in their churches too, so they go to VBS, Wed evening studies, youth activities, etc.

Home schooling in Texas is very common. I've met literally dozens of them. That said, there are exceptions just like anything else. There are a couple that are just bad. They believe in home schooling, but they don't put in a lot of effort. However, many of them are high achievers in sports and education.
