Working out upon in the morning is life changing srs

I wish I had known this sooner. Better workouts, better energy throughout the day, better sleep. Before I would drag myself after work to go lift but not anymore. I definitely would recommend.

If it’s a work day I can’t. I’ll be groggy as fuk, 50% weaker with 75% less stamina.

If it’s a summer weekend morning, absolutely the GOAT feeling. I love being in the gym at 5am.

I can understand people who do a bit of light cardio before work (in the 4am-7am hours) but honestly people who lift that early make me wonder what their intensity and volume actually looks like.

I can't fathom doing my usual workout with my usual intensity in those hours. My joints aren't ready to move heavy weights that early, my mind isn't capable of the concentration needed that early, and hoping that the workout gives memoreenergy for the day? Fat chance - I'd be absolutely dying the entire time and be 350% exhausted for the entire day afterwards.

OP do you do a bro-split?

That’s why you eat a light breakfast with carbs and coffee and relax for the first 30min-1hr upon waking lol

4 day split low volume (I fatigue way to much on high volume) high intensity. I used to think like you but then I tried it out last week and I’m not switching back. 2 bananas and a protein shake and I’m good for the workout.

That's an acceptable practice but just adds to my confusion when it comes to doing it on work days.

Even if a person works atrue9-5 where they don't start work until exactly 9am on the dot, if you work your way backwards from there (and include 10 min commute to work, 30 mins getting ready (shower, ****, clothes, make/eat post-workout meal, basically just all the odds and ends), 5 min commute from gym to home, 1 total hour in gym (a quick warmup and a bro-split style workout), 5 min commute from home to gym, 45 mins of chilling with coffee before going to gym, alarm) you are waking up before 6:30am. And I feel like I was pretty kind with those commute numbers, so realistically most people on a schedule like this would probably be setting their alarm for 6am... I just don't see most people actually having good intensity after waking up that early.

My perspective may be abnormal though, since I work averyodd (compared to most people) work schedule, and if I did a standard 9-5 perhaps I'd understand it better. Style of training also significantly impacts things, obviously.

All of this is to say that I am not saying it isbadto do early AM workouts, or that itdoesn'twork for you, OP, and others. Just that for me personally it is such a strange concept lol.

That makes more sense to me then.

The triangle of volume-intensity-frequency is very unforgiving for most people, so there's gonna be some give-and-take. Let me ask - do you think that this schedule of training (and format for your entire day) is beneficial for your gainzzzz too or are you looking at it as mostly beneficial for your overall day, how you feel, etc.? Meaning do you think your physique, strength, etc. will be better on this setup or are you focused more on the 'all day' benefits?

I start my lift whenever I wake up (home gym crew). Sometimes that is at 3:30 other times its 5 am. I get out of bed whenever I wake up the first time as it makes me more groggy to stay in bed an go back to sleep. I would put my lifting intensity up against anyone else. I could just be use to it at this point but people that come to lift with me either don't come back or say whatever they have been doing is just worthless

I kinda stopped caring about doing the most efficient workouts to maximize the most amount of muscle possible. If you’re lifting and making progress, albeit slow, you’re still progressing and making gains. I’m at a point in my life that I would rather feel good and look decent than look amazing and feel like chit. I’m definitely more motivated now to lift in the morning than I am after work. I rather come home from work and just relax (maybe even take a nap) and not worry about lifting.

4:30AM crew. As soon as they open. If I tried to go in the afternoon I would have all day to talk myself out of it and I'd be groggy AF because no endorphin spike in the morning.

some of us are just morning people and i am not.

I could run 5k races early in the AM. but the type of volume weight training that i prefer could not be optimized unless in the evening.
Dropping things, poor coordination, low strength, waking up under squats.....that is a no from me dawg.

How long are your workouts typically? Just asking because I am curious what your lift, get ready, go to work, schedule looks like.

That's cool bruh. That consistency in motivation will make a big difference in terms of consistency of lifting, too. Lots of ways to skin a cat lol.

I have been wanting to do this for a while. I have been going to the gym by 7 and come back home by 9 and then eat dinner then go to bed by 11. It sucks. I have to leave work by 5 and take care of family matters/ apocalypse prep then go workout.

What do you guys eat in the morning ?
Obviously it cant be a big meal ill need something that digests quickly.

While I would prefer working out anywhere in the 10am to 3pm time frame, when work gets in the way I always get prefer to do it before work than after.

Yeah I have to wake up at 4:45am on the weekdays; but what I don’t have to do is contend with a uber packed Gym at 5-7pm.I will never go to the gym at it’s busiest hours, ESPECIALLY after just going through a whole day of work. Hell ****ing no.

I'm the same way. Gotta get up and go walk/jog/run a bit? Sure, I'll make it happen (though I don't do much true elevated HR cardio so it's mostly just walking in the AM). But hit the gym and do the volume and intensity that I enjoy and works best for me? Absolutely no way - 'my body is(n't) ready....' lol

Idk how people cannot train in the morning, after your body gets used to it you will wake up exactly at the same time and even if you dont go to the gym at the time you would have been in the gym you get an energy boost. Morning crew checking in, feelsgood.gif

Unless you’re competing, I don’t see the point in freaking out over a 10% drop in strength. Again lifting is relative. As long as you’re progressing it doesn’t matter.

I think this also depends on what kind of job one has. Office type of jobs, I have no problem going to the gym right after. But if you work construction, it makes more sense to get a workout right before (then caffeine boost yourself after the workout to grind out the work day). Then you have a lot of time off after work and can sleep early.

Also there is the problem of some people having joint problems, meaning you can't just do a squat out of bed. You need a few hours after waking up for the body to function for such

Thats why you drink plenty of fluid the night before and take some liquid IV packet before bed.
