Message of early retirement/cheap living -- affront to worshippers of $$$

Every forum I've ever been to has people that get angry about early retirement and start trying to insult anyone doing it as being "poor" "lazy" "loser", etc, etc.

EVERY forum. Same argument from people claiming to be "rich" (probably just rich around the butthole).

And I know why!

The sorta "hippy" idea of "having enough" and chillin' with all your time is an affront to those who get their sense of being from wealth/possessions.

Their wealth and money is what they use to form their identity, confidence, accomplishment in life.

They begin to worship money.

I can now see why the Bible says the following:

"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

Early retirement is great, it's nice doing whatever you want while you're still able to do it. We don't know when the reaper will visit us, might as well make as much of your time as you can. I could see myself maybe getting a part time job a few days a week just to have something to do. But that's not even on my radar at this point.

It was nice getting away with my daughter and the grandkids last week at the condo.

MrMoneyMustache forums opie. Also bogleheads had a good forum. There's tons of FI/RE and ER blogs out there. Mustachians are my favorite tho since they largely stay away from politics and focus mostly on money. They run center tho.

I agree with your philosophy OP. But my question is.. why not strive for more? You clearly have enough $$ to be "free", but not enough to live a spectacular life. You just need to push your net worth to $5 - $10 million to get there. There are many ways to get there none of which involve wageslaving especially in your situation.

I mean I'll keep doing whatever I can do within a few clicks when I wake up...if it doubles my money so be it I guess. But I really just think I'll live the same life I live now regardless of having more money or not. My life has essentially been one long long long summer vacation so far. At some point you sorta lose the concept of time.

They used to at least. Haven’t been on in a while but after covid every other post was the similar “but trump” that has infected parts of this forum

Older posts still have good advice though
