Only place I’d live in NY is upstate, it truly is beautiful, could never live in the city. I like being close to the city for good food, entertainment, etc, but being packed in, especially how NY is layed out, I couldn’t imagine people get any rest there.

LOL. Plenty of celebs live in Brooklyn Heights for a start. They are just seething and know nothing about the city as they can't afford it.

I'm on the UES. Work remotely. Admittedly, I don't visit every part of Manhattan. I say Manhattan just as a general reference to the area, I know each part of it has a different vibe.

Some people are just wired differently, I've lived in suburbs in my adult life and the lack of foot traffic was maddening to me. Felt like I was living on a planet where everyone was dead. I like walking to get my groceries, walking in general.. can't stand the car life.

I could afford to buy a townhome in dumbo or similar but I literally cannot fathom the idea of having to pay money to see a doctor, even in Moscow it’s not like that

Insurance is what it is. My employer pays around 3200/month for mine (covering my wife and I).

My wife (German) hates it. I am used to it. But the discussion here is too politicized for folks to take a hard look at health care and insurance. Though the Dems can't even come together on it either, lol.

And yeah there are very nice parts of Brooklyn that are more expensive than nice parts of Manhattan. Some posters just don't get it lol.

I actually get the appeal of NYC. I’d probably live there if I was more of a money mogger. I don’t think it’s worth it on my current ~ $200K income, because that goes a lot further in Texas. But when I make $500K one day, I’d love to move to NYC and get a sick condo with a view

Imagine being a Chad and having a baller condo in a city with millions and millions of hot girls within a few miles. Man that would be sweet. Miss me with that suburbs chit, the very idea makes me want to rope

$200k is still $9k/month in NYC - you could afford a nice place for $4k, spend $2k on monthly expenses, and have $4k left over in cash savings each month

I thought about Texas, I make good money and would definitely save more there, but again, suburbs suck. Place where people go to raise families and retire.

That’s the thing - $4k discretionary income is not enough for me. I like to be able to simultaneously invest aggressively, and live it up. I couldn’t maintain my current spending on that

Also, I doubt $4k gets you a nice place in NYC. I’ve looked at apartment.com listings and $3.5k seems to get you a very tiny entry level apartment. I wouldn’t want to live there unless I had a big luxury pad

Texas=/=suburbs. You can live in the populated parts of Houston, Dallas, or Austin. Good nightlife and can get a baller ass place for less than a cheap place in NYC

Average price of a ****box in Manhatty is 5k which gets you 600sq feet. You need to be renting at 5 figures to even be entry level mogging.

What's funny is how NT'ers think that everywhere else people are backwards and stupid. They will say "you can make it here you can make it anywhere" and yeah, you can make it anywhere but there and the reality is if you can make it, you can make it, it' not about location. People go to overpriced schools and then live in overpriced areas because they are led to believe that more expensive means better.

I've learned from personal experience that often places that pay more, cost more to live there. You have to find a balance. NY the balance is tipped in the opposite direction that say backwoods Mississippi where it's cheap to live but wages are trash.
