United fuked up BIG TIME on our flight. Story Tiem
Been hopping around for the last week and a half. Chicago, Boston, NYC, and unexpectedly DEN. Everything was as usual until the very last leg home. The final flight was LGA (NYC)-DEN-SMF (Sacramento). Our flight from LGA was delayed an hour so when we got into DEN our flight to SMF was supposed to be leaving. When we landed they told us not to worry and that they would hold the plane because there were 14 others going from the flight. We got to the gate and the 14 of us got off first and went straight to the SMF gate.
The moment we all got there the plane was being pushed back. The plane had a new departure time of 9:45PM and the screen showed it had closed the door at 9:41. It was 9:44. IF they had waited the 4 extra minutes none of it would've happened. I've heard stories of 1-2 people or a family missing a flight and that's bad enough. But 14 people??? That's 10% of the seats or 2 whole rows. So we all got ditched and had to be rebooked/hotels.
When we asked the gate person they must of been half brain dead because they acted like they had no idea what we were talking about. We kept pointing at the plane we were supposed to have been on that was starting its engines and were asking WTF happened? The agent kept saying everything was OK and that there wasn't a problem because the planes were at the gates and that no one had departed and blah blah. I don't think I've ever dealt with a dumber person at an airport before.
United rebooked me for the 7:35PM flight the next day. I was not about to stay 22 hours in DEN so I fortunately booked Southwest for the 6:20AM flight the next day. Went to one of their hotel vouchers but they had used them all up so crashed in the lobby for 4 hours before going back to the airport.
The other crap side of this story was United had forced me to check my bag instead of carry it on. So, once I got into SMF I had to wait an hour and 30 for the first United flight to get in which had my bag which had my car keys, etc..
What a fooking end to that trip. Anyone else got some major BS airline stories?

Never take connecting flights like that. I don’t know what you were thinking. Especially in Denver where this is notorious.

OP, you fuked up. You should have stayed in Denver and partied. These situations are positives, not negatives.
I had a similar thing happen last year. I had a connection in Miami at 6AM on a Sunday morning, and they told me my flight home was cancelled and they couldn't get me on another flight until the following evening. They weren't even offering a hotel because it was weather related, and told me I could stay in the Delta Lounge and eat all my meals for free until that time.
Obviously I wasn't going to stay at the airport in Miami for 36 hours, so I immediately booked a hotel room at the SLS Brickell for that day. They had a pool party, and I was there completely solo.
Went to the pool, started pounding drinks. Ended up making friends with these two guys who were there with 4 girls(one of the girls passed out in a pool chair with one of her tits out). Drank all day with these people, and ended up going out to dinner and got a load of Pepsi with them. Then came back and partied in their hotel room until like 1AM, and we went out to clubs. At about 3AM, we went to Eleven. Then at like 5:30AM, we all went back to the hotel and I ended up fuking one of the girls.
Woke up the next morning, and went back to the airport. Yes, my extra day in Miami ended up costing me an extra $1500(on a Sunday, lol), but it was totally worth it. Delta did end up reimbursing me for about $700 of it, so I guess it wasn't actually that bad.

There's still some fking around to do between closing the door and push back. You missed it by more than a few minutes. Usually want 2+ hours between connections to be (kinda) safe.

Yep.
Went to Vegas last year and ended the trip on a bender. On top of that I contracted covid and was going through the thick of it the very last day. Woke up at 10:10AM, needed to checkout by 11, and the flight was @ 11:15. Not sure if you've ever experienced that nightmare where you're at school, taking a finals for a class you never actually went to. It felt exactly like that. Anyways, by the time I get to the airport and past security it's 11:19. Missed entry. Oh well. Go to the counter expecting having to purchase a ticket, shelling out another 500$, but the lady booked me for the next flight free of charge.

If that flight to SMF had a continuation to Hawaii or something I could sense the urgency. But it was an end of the line flight. By the time we would have gotten into SMF anyways after 11PM the only flights leaving after that were late midnight flights to East coast or Mexico. There's still some fking around to do between closing the door and push back. The other reason could have been that the flight crew would have timed out by waiting longer and fooked everyone in totality. The crew are FAA limited/regulated with how many hours they can be on the plane/active duty. So, that honestly was probably what it was. Either they leave when they left or cancel the whole flight. Better to ditch 14 people than to cancel an entire plane altogether.
Having flown all my life and every major airline in the USA Southwest still ranks highest in fixing these problems and reimbursing people. #1 customer service for a reason.
