Wow hated oppenheimer, so mad srs (spoilers)
Been hyped for years since I heard about this movie. I'm a huge history buff (can watch obscure documentaries and be totally entertained). Also love reading about the atomic bomb project, nuclear testing etc. Interstellar is one of my favorite movies ever. When I heard he was making a movie about oppenheimer I was 10/10 excited.
Movie had too much music..it never stopped even during speaking parts. 40% of what was being said was muffled and hard to make out. Reminded me more of that chit movie Tenet Nolan made.
Too much jumping around timelines only for the kicker to be explained during the final 10 minutes (leaving you slightly confused for first 2.5 hours).
There was good acting and I respect the effort and subject material but this thing was waaaaaay overhyped boyos. Cannot believe I pre-ordered imax tickets to see someone's face on a 200 ft screen talking rapidly over too loud bass/music for 3 hours.
Seriously haven't felt this disappointed then when I saw phantom menace as a kid(srs). Would reccomend only watching at home with subtitles on a tablet or something. No need for a big screen.

Testing of the actual bomb was cool but it was like a 3 min scene. So much more they could have delved into (the criticality accidents that killed scientists when building the bombnfor example)

You knew it was a loser just from the title.
Of all the possible Manhattan Project characters they pick fukking Oppenheimer to center the story on lmao he was an absolute mediocrity compared to the people around him.
Von Neumann famously thought Oppenheimer was delusional, called his melodramatic, ostentatious musing about what "he" had done in creating the bomb "self-indulgent"; there were a lot of irreplaceable minds on the Manhattan Project, Oppenheimer wasn't one of them.
Basically he was a solipsist, playing out a Shakespeare play in his head where he was the tortured, tragic hero. Meanwhile the actual geniuses around him getting work done instead of being a delusional *******.

If this whole Barbie / Oppenheimer fiasco doesn’t show one how big of sheep Americans are than I don’t even know.
Why was Oppenheimer supposed to be “good”?
Because they spent $50 million advertising and telling you it was going to be?
The story has been flogged to death.. this isn’t anything new..
It’s like when McDonald’s brings in a special burger and plasters it on television screens, You fat Fcuks line up around the block for it, Is it good..? No.

Nolan has some great films (Interstellar, The Prestige, Memento, Dunkirk) but also has some chit ones (Tenet, Inception), and some mediocre ones (Batman trilogy).
He’s a pretty good filmmaker but definitely not S Tier. He’s a solid B.

Has anyone seen the film AND read the book it’s based on? If so, is it better to just read the book?
There is an insistence in Hollywood to turn every book into a movie, but the fact of the matter is some books just don’t lend themselves well to being made into movies. Oppenheimer strikes me as such an example.

The sound issues are annoying and immersion-breaking, though. And the exposition is just too ham-fisted sometimes.
*Loud Bass Music*
*BWWWWOOONNNGGGGGGGGGGG…*
“So you, J Robert Oppenheimer, the world’s leading Nuclear Physicist, headed the Manhattan Project at the Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico? And I, Lewis Strauss, who might be considered your arch-nemesis, have been tasked with leading this Security Hearing to determine your fate?”
*BBBBRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMM*
“Yes, it appears that way. You might even say that I am complicit in creating the current Nuclear Arms Race in which we find ourselves with the Soviet Union, and bringing us to the brink of Total Atomic Annihilation”
*People look at each other pensively*
*Camera goes to a Flashback without indicating that a Flashback has occurred*
(Not verbatim but you get my drift)

If it's not even that entertaining, that's a disappointment. Because you already know it's not going to be historically accurate.
At the end of the day, these historical hollywood movies are meant to be propaganda or pose a fake narrative. Like the Irishman suggesting the Mafia killed JFK (fukn lol).

I liked the gradual build up - it was tense and well done to setting off the bomb......then its a massive anti climax to continue watching for another 1 hour of a boring court case. Makes no sense. (If it was like 5 minute court case then fine but damn.....thats not how you make a film)
Much more action was and atomic imagery was needed
Idgaf about oppenheimer, just show me some god damn nuclear explosions
I could probably make a better film
The only thing that saved this movie was top tier acting from nearly every actor........why did Nolan include a pajeeet also as the H bomb scientist lol

And worst part of all was Nolan hyping up that this needed to be seen in 70mm iMax. There are people who literally flew across several states just to see it in thr closest 70mm imax theater.
I was literally researching about the differences between 70mm imax and 2d laser imax for hours to see this in the best possible format.
Was completely unneeded. 99% of movie is people arguing about communist party ties in a claustrophobic room (with timeline jumps every 1 minute).
Totally feel scammed by Nolan. I feel so dumb boyos
