Assuming net income (after taxes, and after 401k match), I strive to keep rent/mortgage below 30%. If we're just saying gross income then 23% or less.

I'm currently a rentcel, but because I don't have PMI, HOA, property taxes, maintenance, mortgage loan interest, total costs are cheap (though I obviously get no equity on my residence). Rent's about 25% of my take home atm.

30% is realistic but you could essily go up to 50% and sacrifice for a while, since your mortgage doesn't go up but your earnings will.

Paying like 50% of our take home pay right now, but that includes extra principal payments to hammer it down. Should be paid off in the next few years.

For reference, the home is well over a million, but that is average for where I live.

currently at like 29%, that includes mortgage, taxes, insurance, electric, and internet. Doing fine on a single income, but would be better on a dual income. Chicks just dont want a dude with his **** together apprently.
