Question for ex military miscers

Why don't all military servicemen wear something like hockey masks to avoid disfigured faces? It's one thing to have a disfigured arm, leg, or have your chest all burned... but if your face is still attractive, you'll be fine. Chicks dig war scars anyway.

But the face is so important...


i'm surprised soldiers don't grab something, like a jason mask, and paint it and modify it, to protect face during war.

1st answer, because it's Fing hot.

2nd answer, we just developed and fielded a face/mandible protector that snaps on the new helmet. Probably not comfortable for running around, but more protection if you are facing fragmentary threats.

I mean, jason mask was an example. There's gotta be face masks with full FOV and still offer good facial protection

There are certain jobs or duties that do require some type of face shield for activities that present a higher risk for damage to the face.


The protective equipment is provided by the military.

It comes in various forms including acrylic face shields with head harnesses, to as had been mentioned, accessories that can be mounted on helmets already in use.

During counterinsurgency operations, in order to appear more human, which can help foster deeper trust and relationships, the general idea was the face should be free of obstruction. Sunglasses even. The relatively low risk for injury to the face, and the increased value of a deeper relationship dictated this practice.

Yep....and it can be cumbersome over a long period of time along with possibility of field of fire vision being impaired.
