Heatwave = possible winning issue for Dems?
A big national story right now is the extreme heat-waves across the country, and naturally, this event leads to talk about climate change.
Is there is an opening for Dems to score some points over Republicans? Because truthfully - Republicans are on the wrong side on this one. Many Repubs deny that climate change is real; many Repubs push back on efforts to invest in clean energy . In contrast, most Dems feel clean energy should be a top priority
I think the Dems could benefit from it

It doesn't really matter what the issue is, no matter what they're told, they'll act like it's the end of the world.

Hopes of electoral victory are why it gets so much media coverage, and has since the 1980s. The hyperbole is off the chain. Better nuke China if we want to limit emissions, as they're emitting 3x the US now. India is catching up quickly and will surpass the US's emissions in the in about a dozen years. The truth iseven if the US switched 100% of its electrical grid to renewables and nuclear in the next 10 years it wouldn't change global warming one bit.The poor world wants to live first world standards, and not just by so many of them invading the first world illegally, but in their home countries too, which means lots more global emissions.

If the earth is warming up quickly, then more people should survive as cold weather kills far more people than warm weather.

A basic fact is that to stop man's contribution to global warming the poor world has to be kept poor and a few billion people would have to be killed off sooner than later. Putting up solar panels on every house and windmills in every windy place in the US won't make even a slight dent.

Climate change is racist because the system that caused it is racist. No, rainstorms don’t care about skin colour, but worsening weather worldwide aggravates the divisions in society that already exist because it hits people of colour living in poverty the hardest. Simply put: the reason the world hasn’t been fighting climate change as hard as it should is because powerful people don’t want to stop exploiting people of colour. The urgency of climate change is also an urgency for racial justice.

Obviously there's the question of how, with what materials, etc, but in this hypothetical where the West is able to make sme miraculous switch, it doesn't have to be useless because of the rest of the world, since the rest of the world can be given it, too.Hopes of electoral victory are why it gets so much media coverage, and has since the 1980s. Of course, the way I see it is this whole debate avoids one very real, frightening possibility. That is to say, what if man-made climate isn't real....but all the fckery that's coming is just natural. On the one hand leftists seem to be convinced that we're headed for an apocalypse of our own making, whereas those who are against this seem to have a "it'll all be fine, it's just natural changes" mentality. But what's to say that itwillbe fine? What's to say that the planet isn't going to naturally change to a point that it'll become inhospitable to millions / billions just by natural change, not to mention the knock-on effects that it'd have on plant growth etc?
Thatwould be the real threat, the real incentive to push for better, more efficient renewables.
