Former President Trump was indicted Tuesday on charges stemming from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump was indicted on four federal charges out of the probe, including conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights.

I really have not been following this -- do they have something beyond his public tweets and statements? About protesting loudly but peacefully? Was he coordinating behind the scenes with rally leaders or something?

He's not being charged for the riots.

It's more about trying to overturn the election. He knew the election wasn't "stolen" or "rigged" or mired in fraud; yet he continued to make efforts to overturn the election anyways, such as conjuring some fake electors or pressuring officials to "find votes" or "reject certification"

These indictments are incredibly detailed and focused on the orange moron's attempt to overturn a free and fair election.

The trial will be held in DC and will 100% be before the election. The crimes are all very serious and bring with them the potential for long sentences.

Thank you. I am fairly ignorant about this, legally at least, so wait and see. I do think Trump acted irresponsibly and clearly overblew 'evidence' and fed the false Kraken narrative, but at the same time -- I've seen a lotta sour grapes from Democrats over the years, too, (ie tons in 2000, a few in 2004, then plenty in 2016) so I didn't think anything seemed illegal.
