This is an interesting perspective. I rarely receive feedback on my performance other than it’s stellar. The only negative feedback I’ve received in the last 10 years is that with traffic it’s tough for me to get in the office by 9am and I arrive at 9:15am.

I’ve always been a “perfectionist” at work, heavy duty mechanic, every repair needs to be done correctly, or it risks becoming a repeat issue, I’ve built a career off of the fact that my repairs are correct and don’t become repeat issues. Building an engine demands perfection, if you want it to last.
Doing the best job you can do just shows pride in your work

I guess when it becomes a repeat issue then you want to do it right the first time.

Exactly. Perfectionist at work, work a lot but I know how to leave work at work. When I’m off the clock work is the furthest thing from my mind

brb stopped being a perfectionist when I was gonna get fired for not completing things on time. Started half-assing everything to get projects out the door and I'm getting pats on the back and raises in salary.

Feels bad man. But I'm not broke at least. (( weird feels man )) Time to switch careers and yolo.

This. Overthinking/analyzing. Would rather be a simplistic oaf/borderline retarded. Life is more simpler. Having a high IQ and smarts is cool because you understand the world around you but when it comes to dealing with the vast majority of people it blows because everyone is low IQ and can't understand and comprehend what you're telling them. There's not too much difference between Cavemen/Neanderthals and the current population of people. With AI doing all the work now for everyone it's only going to get worse. I'd say Misc has less then 10-20 people who could actually hold an intelligent conversation or talk with someone with an above 150-160 IQ.

no because it doesn't benefit me that much to kill myself over smaller details

it won't get me a raise

it will add stress to my life

I try to be as carefree and thorough as possible, sometimes things are out of my control

LOL at all the comments, i do the bare minimum in a quarter of the time allocated , have to do the odd intense bit of work but only now and then.

I am considered high performing and indispensible ... Work SMART not hard

In Asia where I worked if you got Employee of the Month you got additional bonus pay. Could only get it 2 times because well it would hurt other people's feelings or wasn't fair (working with Westerners). Apparently a few people complained it was the same people getting it over and over. Not anyone's fault they kept doing a chitty job.

Yet all of the experienced and ability abled people in the workforce seem to be getting canned in lieu for people who are lazy and just don't give a fuk and then businesses continue to complain about dropping profit margins. Wonder why. The idiots are going to win this war because it's the "smart" business decision and the smart/experienced people want to get paid for their value which is too "expensive" for them.

Is that truth or just what you/people tell themselves to make them feel irreplaceable and they hold value? Everyone to some extent is replaceable.

But does it provide fast and efficient profit? That's the name of the game. Creating profit as fast as possible with the acceptable decline in quality. If people had to choose between a mechanic shop who could get their car back to them in 2 weeks but has lower quality versus a shop that would take a month at a higher quality, people would choose the 2 week shop and "accept" complaining about problems resulting from the lower quality and just keep dumping more $$ into fixing the problems from the original one. Like in healthcare. Do you treat all the problems at once or do you just deal with it as they happen which ends up being very $$ in the long run. When I go into the shop I just tell them to check and fix all the issues. I don't want to piece meal needing to take my car in every 2-3 months because of stuff that could have been fixed earlier. I can accept the extended lack of having a car if it means long term prevention.

i constantly get asked about areas which i have not been involved in for years because i have the knowledge that others do not have

I am told on regular basis by people all across the the organisation that i am the 'Go To' person in many areas of the business

In my appraisals ..about which i could no fkcs this is always cited as a organsational strength


its not me saying....its what people tell me


of course everyone leaves in the end and th work goes on, but much is also lost when you have so much knowledge and experience

no one checks me, watches over me and i have a superb reputation in my organisation at all levels.................once you get to that position work is easy street

Yes. Sometimes it drives me crazy as at times I’m not even asking people to write code, I ask them to create a certain number of accounts and privileges and to click a button and they don’t get it.

Now I always send them a screenshot of the button and that helps, but man it’s frustrating to go to such lengths for simple requests.

I don’t know what the problem is. It’s easy for me to be a Boomer and blame Millennials and Gen Z for not following easy instructions.

It’s still baffling to me.

It could be a language barrier as I work with mostly multinationals from one country.

I would say yes, but it has subsided a lil recently.. when I was still training it was the nervousness of someone always listening to your decisions and critiquing them no matter how small. "I would have turned that aircraft another 5 degrees".. "you gave that weather call too late now that plane is gonna wanna move you should have said it this way".

I still make mistakes, like losing a guy on frequency cause I switched him a lil late or maybe I thought my 15 degree turn was enough and it's a lot tighter.. but generally I just don't like when people are behind me to critique my choices but I've learned now to not care as much.

You're an air traffic controller? Yikes! That is a very stressful job. I used to live near a military base and we had a lot of ATC neighbors.

That is tough when people critique you. I feel you there. Some people can get away with it while others have a breakdown.

My grandmother used to have breakdowns when she was criticized. She graduated top of her class at Berkeley but she was such a perfectionist that if someone criticized her she would fall into a terrible bout of depression and anxiety for weeks. That happened once when she was volunteering at a voting booth and they criticized her counting of the ballots.

well in all fairness

I think most of those specs are over engineered. If I make a part here in Canada during the winter that is being shipped to texas. It will most likely measure slightly bigger down there

And everything is inspected and measured by me and most likely measured again before it's put into use

Not like I make a part and they just throw it onto a machine and hope I knew what I was doing lol

And any parts I make for safety equipment has a whole different testing process
