How do i make sure it doesn't go no contact on me? srs

I believe the risk of cartilage wear actually increases more significantly with two factors: Volume and Poor Form.
Lifting heavy but with excellent form (from a biomechanical standpoint,notfrom a maximize-hypertrophy standpoint) is likely going to keep your joints healthiest the longest.

First thing is you have to understand what cartilage is. It's basically a lubricating pad around a joint surface to prevent the actual bone surface from being worn down and destroyed. It's basically a shock absorber for things like your hips and knees. So if you lift heavy constantly and don't take care of yourself, eventually it will wear down faster.
If you lift 200 pounds 10 times or 50 pounds 40 times, the overall load is the same. High reps low weight doesn't make a difference. What does is allowing the body to adapt properly to the load you're using and making sure that you don't overstress the joints.
Most lifters don't realize that you don't have to lift to failure to improve your strength.

If you've never heard of someone wrecking their back doing a simple hip-hinge (one of the most basic movements our bodies are designed to do (DL)), wrecking their knees doing a simple squat (one of the absolute most functional movements that literal 2 year olds instinctively do correctly), wrecking their elbows playing high-frequency swinging sports (tennis rackets weigh less than .75 lb....), wrecking their {insert literally anything here because someone did something thatshouldbe easy and honestly good for your body and joints, but did it incorrectly to a significant degree or mildly incorrect over a vast amount of volume] then you might need to start asking more questions.
Bodybuilding isnota joint friendly venture because so much emphasis nowadays is put on machines that limit motion to one specific line or curve that may not actually fit everyone's anatomy. It focuses on the 'show muscles' to such a degree that joint and motion dysfunction is rampant. 'Frozen joints' are as common in "bodybuilders" (usually not most knowledgeable pros, but more the amateur crowd..) as they are in desk-sitters, gamers, etc. 'Posture' for most "bodybuilders" isn't even a word they recognize. When you combine all of these factors, things like cartilage get hit the hardest because the person says "**** it I want to do OHP even though my thoracic extension is chit because I've done so much bench pressing with garbage form while simultaneously neglecting my rear delts and any form of rotator cuff functional training. So I'll hop on a seated machine OHP that forces my shoulder to move in ONE singular motion and just ignore that slightly nagging feeling I get when I do my 20 reps (because lighter weights are better bro) and get massive delts bro.
And then you look at how those dudes who are now 50, 60, 70 years old have been training in a similar fashion for a long time but starting out at a point ofeven lesstraining knowledge (what is available now in terms of knowledge is vastly greater than what was available 40 years ago) than what we have now and it actually should be no surprise that they have joints that are fukking wrecked.
And to be clear, an OHP isnota 'simply straight line movement' if you actually look at what all goes into ensuring a stable base, core, spinal alignment, scapular control, flexion and rotation at the shoulder.... add it all up and ifsomethingis going to go wrong, it will likely be at the joint with the most movement - the shoulder itself. Do it 20000 times over 30 years and yeah, cartilage is fukked.

Do a bit of research on "functional movement" (NOT CROSSFIT "FUNCTIONAL" - all caps for emphasis. fukk those crossfit fukkers using the word 'functional' to promote their BS) and incorporate a bit of that into your training where you see some points you could improve, and honestly you could probably do the same 6 movements forever lol.

Glucosamine Sulphate & Chondroitin appear to help…i dont have cartilage issues so idk for sure…good form is best prevention but I imagine with repetition and heavy weights its likely to happen

nobody does 50 for 40 in place of 200 for 10. It is more like 175 pounds for 20 in place of 200 for 10. That is the beauty of high reps. You can safely exhaust muscle (go to failure in your terms) without injury. I am 56, and this is the way to lift. My joints are better than they were at my 35.
Speaking of cartilage weardown, we should probably think of how it growth in first place. There is no blood vessels feeding nutrients to cartilage, it is fed by movement alone. Not movement while you lift, but movement of a joint during other 23 hours of your day.

Bumping this, but as a dude with suspected cartilage issues in the knee from who knows what (I would lift/run/walk/stretch properly & regularly), I'll be trying out the glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM stack & report back.
