Agreed. McDonnies campaign is has zero substance. It's all "stolen election, poor me". And Ron's campaign is basically nonexistent.

I do think it was now or never for Ron though. Even if he held off once McDonnie gets rekt in 24, anyone associated closely with him would have no chance going forward.

I envisioned Ron as the natural heir to MAGA. But, by going head to head against Trump in this primary, he's F'd his ties to MAGA, probably indefinitely. He needed all of MAGA to have had a shot. He also blew any shot he might have had at being Trump's VP pick.

DeSantis vs. Newsom would have been a pretty realistic matchup for 2028. They directly contradict each other and are mega popular among their parties, handled covid/eduecation/crime completely differently, they are similar ages, etc. The storylines for such an election would write themselves.

I don't see it now, though. Ron will need to recapture the spark he has lost in his time trying to beat Trump.

The question for Ron is how he would do nationally. I'm not sure he would be any better charisma wise in 2028.

He's pretty much Yeb or Scott Walker. Guys who were popular governors, and everyone thought would be an easy wins if they ran for the WH, Until.....we saw them on the national stage.

All of the candidates Trump picked for the midterms lost, he looked like a sure loser next to DeSantis who had just won re-election with one of the highest margins of victory in Florida history. Florida was the one bright spot compared to the rest of the GOP in the country. GOP pundits called DeSantis' gubernatorial campaign "the blueprint" to win in 2024.

In politics you have to strike when the iron is hot, and DeSantis was a hot commodity after his midterm performance.
