2 things. ...

1. I need ideas on how to improve my youtube vids.

2. I'm going to wear a face mask in my vids now... nothing attention-seeking. Just like a covid mask. Not because of covid. I'm having symptoms from my stroke. causing my face and mouth to droop on the left side. I can not stand looking at it.

People have low attention spans. A lot of popular channels have cutaways to pop culture gags/memes and whatnot to really drive a point home. Incorporating stuff like that will keep people watching. Also, it sucks to say, but the thumbnail and title is typically the biggest draw for most viewers. It's why the thumbnails of many videos are a snapshot of the half second in the video where there's an attractive woman (often posted as a part of some joke in the video). In other words, clickbait.

Agree you could just do a voice over. Or you could use animation or maybe even some sort of AI gimmick.

As I understand there are a lot of sources w/information on optimizing your channel. I watched about half of this:

Some stuff I remember:

- know your demographic

- people hate the automated voice stuff

- any interaction with your content is a win- upvote, downvote, subscribe, share comment...it is all good

And I have noticed that sometimes content from a small channel will get remade by a bigger channel with better production value.

I've learned by watching that some channels that are doing pretty well are just people reading news items into a camera, but they use a clickbait style thumbnail. Does save me time when they name the source because then I can keep listening, or just go look it up myself.

You might get more views by keeping your videos on the short side because sometimes I will take a chance on an unknown if there is an interesting topic or a lot of views on a video that I can watch in 10 or 15 or 20 minutes roughly if I know that I need to stop and go do something else. I find the very long videos [over 90 minutes] I am a lot less likely to watch because then I feel like I have to sort of plan that time...maybe put it on while I am also doing something else. Or I might have to stop part way through and then I may or may not ever go back and watch the rest.
