Texas, Virginia, and California have the most military bases out of all states. The largest military base by populace is Fort Bragg which as of 2022 has more than 90,000 personnel who work and live on it. The largest of military bases by area is Fort Hood, Texas, with nearly 215,000 acres of land.

Would have some amazing equipment for sure but very few pilots capable to operate them.

Would either need to get Canadians on side to allow passage or smash the Canadians for not allowing passage or amphibious invasion.
Hawaii on the other hand only hope is amphibious invasion so any landlocked states are fukked

I’d hazard a guess that no matter how you define that, though, it would probably be the state with the most rural residents. That’s usually defined as people who don’t live in metropolitan areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.
So Texas, with more than 3 million rural residents, would probably be the state with the most rural towns. Other states with rural populations above 2 million are Ohio (2.3 million) and North Carolina (2.2 million).
Maine and Vermont have the largest percentage of rural residents, but they have small overall populations, so each has fewer than 600,000 rural residents.

I'd be curious what ChatGPT or experts would have to say.
I would say Texas has the advantage for not having to protect their whole southern boarder, population, and the high percentage of gun ownership.
Pennsylvania would probably take over the east coast.
Missouri would possibly take the Midwest.
California the west coast and some mountain states.
Florida would probably take as far as North Carolina.
So I'd put it down to Texas, Pennsylvania, Missouri, California, and Florida fighting the final battles.

California is damn near uninvadable on the east side, and only has 3-4 viable harbors on the Pacific side (SF Bay, Monterey, Long Beach, San Diego). It is very hard to even set foot on their soil.
It's food-sufficient too. The only real opening you have is that southern California is not water sufficient. Cut the viaducts from the Colorado, and SoCal is actually unsurvivably dry. 0 rain for 6 months sounds awesome until the faucets turn off and the toilets stop flushing.
Still, as long as food comes in from Fresno and oil comes in from the Pacific, I like California's odds of holding out.
Texas is food sufficient, water sufficient, and oil sufficient, but is pretty much indefensible country. A tank division could move 300 miles a day easily and attack any of the bases or population centers from 360 degrees.

California would win by giving the rest of the country aids or hepatitis by all the homeless bleeding on them.
