Do you remember the first time you heard System of A Down?
It was 2001 for me...I was in 8th grade, and my routine would be get home from school go to my room do some homework, and play some Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
Then I'd stay up late, and wait for the show Loveline on this radio station 99x it was based out of Cali so I'd have to stay up til midnight to listen to it.
Adam Corolla, and was it Jimmy Kimmel also? Anyways, after that show was over it was a rock station, and they played Chop Suey, and the rest was history.
They advertised the album was coming out in a couple weeks, and as soon as it did went with my cousin to Music Warehouse, and bought it.
Probably played Chop Suey literally 30 times that night. Little did I know ATWA was the best song on the album.

Didn’t their first album come out 9/11/2001?
I heard they were questioned by the fbi
Lyrics like “self righteous suicide”
Along with that release date, some weird coincidences.

Jay Z- Blueprint came out on 9/11 though. Kinda crazy when you listen to Renegade with Eminem.

Crazy coincidence- I remember hearing it first in 01 when my brother was dating this petite chick. She was pretty fine, but probably crazy. She had it blasting in her car with the alpine cd deck.
I also watched my brother play lots of THPS on the Dreamcast, either the soundtrack or Creed lol

They actually took a bit to grow on me. I first heard "Steal this Album" in 2002 and it didn't vibe with me right away. A few months later and I heard Toxicity and loved the entire album and checked out STA again and liked it.
Other than one or two songs I couldn't get into their first album though.

I was in on the ground floor, and heard the self titled album just after release in 98. Had a friend who had a small time local radio show and he got a lot of free CD's. He was like you have to listen to System of a Down. Brilliant album. Still listen to it often now.
Followed up with another brilliant album in Toxicity. Went downhill after that though.

Sounds brilliant being honest. I can only imagine ...Though I'm jealous the rave nights must've been mental back in the 90's. This is such a gem, and it's from 1994. Everyone just having fun eh?

That was the first album I ever bought, played it beginning to end so many fukking times. Before that I used to record mixed tapes back then and would borrow CDs from friends and neighbors to record them on tapes with my best friend's stereo lol. With LoveLine when I listened (early '00s) it was Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew on the "world famous" 106.7 KROQ. Always had the feeling that they hated each other. Dat nostalgia cotdam.

98-99.
I remember a friend went to a rock concert and came back with SOAD first album and a Mudvayne LP.
Both were bad ass although the Mudvayne LP was better IMO.
It has 'Dig' on it and the drumming in that song blew my mind, the other side was 'Nothing to Gein' which was also bad ass.
The SOAD album was their best IMO and through the years I've listened to that way more than any Mudvayne.

This song and album; different from their normal work but it got me interested in them initially.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.
