Elderly man accused of threatening Biden shot and killed by FBI

An armed Utah man accused of making violent threats against US President Joe Biden was shot and killed by FBI agents hours before the president landed in the state Wednesday, authorities said.

Robertson posted online Monday that he had heard Biden was coming to Utah and he was planning to dig out a camouflage suit and begin “cleaning the dust off the M24 sniper rifle,” a post that came after months of graphic online threats against several public figures, according to court documents. Robertson referred to himself as a “MAGA Trumper,” a reference to former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, and also posted threats against top law enforcement officials overseeing court cases against Trump.

Neighbours described Robertson as a frail, elderly man — his online profile put his age as 74 — who walked with the aid of a hand-carved stick. Though he regularly carried guns, they said he didn’t seem a threat.

“There’s no way that he was driving from here to Salt Lake City, setting up a rifle and taking a shot at the president — 100% no way,” said neighbour Andrew Maunder outside the church across from Robertson’s street.

The attack comes as Republicans, who have traditionally touted themselves as the party of law and order, have escalated their attacks on law enforcement and especially the FBI.

Trump has relentlessly attacked the agency, even though it is led by someone he appointed, Christopher Wray. Wray himself has warned of the dangers of recent rhetoric. Some officials have become increasingly alarmed as the former president has escalated his attacks on the FBI, Attorney General Merrick Garland and the local and federal prosecutors who have filed three separate criminal cases against him in recent months.

No, not at all. A bad joke, and in this case a criminal one, has consequences -- death isn't even close to it, though. Bad on you for being so dismissive of human life simply because they have political opinions.

I would like to know more about the shooting, what prompted the agents to use lethal force. Unless the old man drew on them and was a threat, I do not see how this can be justified in the least.

edit: reading the img from Jewlover, this old man was utterly unhinged and I'm less convinced he was not a threat at the time of his shooting. That's fuking nuts.

Here’s the thing both sides of this need to understand.


People who are convinced they know the truth of something. The right path.. etc.. commit the most atrocious unthinkable crimes. This man was not open to Alvin bragg being different than he has been portrayed to this man from the media. This man was convinced things of Biden he has no actual idea if they are true or not.


Do I believe Alvin Bragg is destroying New York and a political pawn abusing his position? Yes. Do I believe it with a conviction that would make me fantasize about action in the same was as the man? Absolutely not.

None of you has any idea what the “real” reality is. None of us do. We have opinions and evidence of facts. Committing to what you believe in to the point of stupid zealotry is the beginning of all modern day atrocities, if both sides could stop simping for their party, and go back to discussing presented evidence and holding politicians and media accountable for what they present to us, the world would be much better.
