Anti-abortion advocates scored a big win on June 24, 2022, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. But since then, their luck seems to have run out.

Abortion has been on the ballot in seven states since that landmark court decision one year ago and in each instance, in red states and blue states, anti-abortion advocates have lost.

In some instances, voters have approved state constitutional amendments protecting abortion rights. In others, they've rejected measures that would weaken protections or make explicit in the state constitution that abortion rights are not protected.

In Ohio Tuesday, abortion wasn't directly on the ballot, but the fight over a measure that would have made it tougher to pass state constitutional amendments in the future was largely framed around the issue with both sides eyeing an abortion-rights measure that will be on the ballot in November.

Democrats and Republicans figure out how abortion will play into the 2024 election. Abortion was a major issue a year ago in the midterms, and it provided a boost to Democrats who leaned into GOP support for restricting access.

It's kind of to be expected that blue States would enact State laws that reflect the ideals of the majority of their population. I think that was the point of overturning it-giving States a choice.

Elections will reflect politicians who prioritize this.

So states' rights in action. A lot of state legislatures have gone too far, IMHO. When put up to the public California voters also rejected gay marriage just a couple of years before it was made legal at the federal level and they voted against affirmative action in the 90s. So voters don't exactly go the way expected.

I told every conservative I know that Roe v. Wade being overturned was a mistake and that it would cost Republicans big time in future elections.

Most of the conservatives who didn't already feel the way I do (that abortion is a stupid issue to fight that hard over) knew this would happen. The religious right faction of conservatives who demanded anti-abortion laws are still mostly too dense to see how badly it plays out for them in purple.

if you're a woman living in a state where restrictions are in place you'll probably feel like it's a ban, especially if they're trying to incarcerate you if you cross state lines to get an abortion. All it takes is a couple of stories of women being detained or harmed because they weren't able to get an abortion.
