Cheap Houses In El Paso Still Moving

Watched a long-ish video about TX and the host said he likes El Paso. I don't really see myself being a desert person, but I skimmed through home listings out of curiosity.

There are a lot of houses in the $145K to $170K range which are Pending. Seems like smaller/older/fixer upper type houses. Newer builds are starting around $175K to $185K.

Dunno if people are moving into the area or if this is investors buying to rent or flip.

What are the demographics like?

I assume mostly Mexicans?

I've been watching El Paso and it's up a lot too, it's just cheap relative to other cities. There's almost nothing cheap right now historically, or regionally, maybe Peoria, IL and small towns in that part of the Midwest, but those prices are going up too.

I've been visiting all of the Texas border towns and I haven't seen anything. I've been in El Paso several times, I've spent a week out there, and I was there about a month ago. I didn't see anything.

Same thing with Laredo and the RGV.

About half Hispanic.


Since you are here I also watched this earlier. They make a visit to Headlands Dark Sky Park which I have visited before. I think he is building in the UP.



Cute idea with turning the old buffet into a kitchenette. Dunno about no indoors bathroom though.

I'm sure cartels from Juarez buy up those cheap houses so they can dig a network of underground tunnels for drug and human trafficking.

Yes. Someone on the livestream mentioned Ruidoso, NM or Flagstaff, AZ as nice western towns. I looked at listing for Ruidoso and they do have some cheap undeveloped land, but for anything built it looks about the same as here.

ETA: meaning the listings under $200K were things like old mobile homes, or little studios in a multi-family that require a monthly HOA fee, maybe something in a 55+ community.

I haven't looked at Ruidoso or Flagstaff, but I haven't seen anything reasonable relative to what it would have cost pre-covid anywhere out west. I'll have to check those two out, though Flagstaff is way too cold for anything I'd ever consider again. I was in Wyoming for a few years and I'd never want to do that again.

El Paso's probably the best I've seen as far as the west goes.

A lot of people don't realize border towns have some of the lowest crime rates in the US. Tbh I'd rather live in serval of them than Arkansas, where many areas actually have a lot of crime, though I'm sure there are a lot of nice safe small towns too.

Look up El Paso and compare it to some metros elsewhere that are a similar size, I think El Paso has one of the lowest crime rates out of all of them iirc.

Me either. NW AR is supposed to be alright, but the rest of it not so much.

In other news I'm watching the next video on the MI cabin build and he was able to put in a hand pump sand point well without any big equipment. Pretty nice.

HOA? Phuck that. I have no respect for Authoritarians like them sticking their nose in everybody else's business and bossing them around just because a bunch of their fellow losers with nothing else going on in their own lives declared them President of The Neighborhood.
