what age did u move out of your parents house?

18 right before college
20 moved back in for a semester to save $$$
21 moved back out again

they kicked me out at 19

made me start paying rent at 18 saying well youre not in school. i was working PT at mcdonalds paying 300/mth rent and I paid for my own internet. this was back when min wage was 6.25/hr

I’m 26 and still live with my parents and I don’t see any realistic situation in which I move out anytime soon.

do they make you pay rent or help with the bills?

21, when I started my first job

No because I am currently unemployed, as I usually am because I can’t hold down a job. Also my Father makes and mostly has made good money, he wasn’t ever the type to ask for rent as his parents began charging him rent at 18 which forced him to move out. So I think he always viewed it as scummy thing to do.

Although my Father I can tell doesn’t like the fact I live at home still as we have clashed heads a decent number of times..however my Mother I know would never want me to leave if it was up to her. I know that she would never allow my Dad to kick me out of the house, because she would leave as well.

My Mother is Italian and my Father is primarily of Celtic and Anglo bloodlines. They were raised differently culturally. Many of my male cousins on my Mothers side of the family still live with their parents, a couple of them are even 50 and 53 respectively. Once at a party someone asked them why they still live at home and my one cousin said because an Italian boy never leaves mommas home.

To me there is median position, don’t kick your kid out of the birds nest before they can fly and/or demand rent at such a young age but don’t baby your kids to the point they have no incentive to leave.

I would love to get out of my parents house, I do pay for my own things (aside from groceries) currently i am chipping away at savings from my previous jobs and soon I’ll need to find another job but there is no way I’ll be able to work full time. I’ll have to work part time.

why?

when i stopped working and couldn't pay rent my parents kicked me out - i had to sleep outside. changed the locks 1st night (wowwowwow) tough love i guess. pretty brutal sleeping outside at 19 but i guess it made me better in a sense that i had to find out real life real quick. can't imagine being over 25 and still living with parents rent free. a lot of my friends were out by 20 and living with each other in apartments or renting rooms.

I have mental illnesses that have impacted me significantly on top of having a specific outlook on the wageslave/workaholic lifestyle that has been normalized in the US. I’m not interested in talking about either of those topics right now though.

Moved back in for a couple months after I turned 18 because I was joining the Navy and needed to do a bunch of stuff for that.

Went to boot camp 2 months after I turned 18.

from 19-21 and then from 25 onwards (felt like I was a bit late with moving out again at the time tho)

I went away to college at 17, came home the first two summers, didn't after that. So I guess 19. My last year of college I paid for my apartment and other living expenses by working 30-40 hours a week, they paid my tuition.

At 17 for university, but they continued sending me money until 18.

The real question should have been “what age did u move out of your parents basement”
