Im not even that old but i feel compelled to make the "old man" speech. No matter how good you are, deadlifts are pretty damn dangerous in the long run. Very few people do them right, which is why people always say it's not a matter of if, but when you visit Snap City. Not to mention technique varies depending on your body type (short torso/long legs or long torso /short legs) Depending on the individual, it requires impeccable form which is impossible to maintain when youre training to failure.
Furthermore, there's a fine line between dynamically stretching to prep for the exercise and dynamically stretching too much and exhausting the ligaments increasing your chance for Injury.
And finally, it kills anesthetics. There was a huge anti-deadlift movement on the misc a number of years ago. Not because of the potential for injury but because it gives you the refrigerator physique instead of a v-taper and at that time everyone was wanting to look like Zyzz.
And yes, I visited Snap City in 2016 and have NEVER been the same. 99% of the time I feel perfectly fine, but every once and a while I'm reminded of my accident when I sleep the wrong way or sit in a chair incorrectly, a problem I've never had in the past.

By definition, adaptive lifters have bad form. And if bad form was the sole variable or even the biggest for snap city, every adaptive athlete coach would be extremely unethical.
the greatest deadlifter of all time - Bob Peoples (725 at 181bw) - did everything wrong by conventional standards - intentionally rounded back being the main one. Granted - genetically the guy had ape arms so he was prone to the lift.
You can have horrible form but if you train it properly, you will get strong in that form and bar path and as long as you maintain it, it is fine. The problem is people who's form breaks down mid lift - and that usually happens to someone to progresses too quickly and/or takes too large a jump on PRs.

When you get older you will find that doing deadlifts is probably the single biggest thing that you can do to hurt your back.
And if you hurt your back? It is game over.
Not worth the risk.

The amount of energy they require and CNS fatigue they cause aren't worth the muscular gains you might get from them...
Look around gyms man. The dudes deadlifting never have the best physiques.

but when the difference between your 1rep max is 5lbs and you add it and it's too much, you're still pulling X amount of weight that will injure you when things collapse

I'm not going to deadlift anymore. The lower back isn't getting any younger. Also lowered all my lifts down in weight, and raised reps. Shoulder injuries last too long in mid 40's.

LMAO at people still falling for the blocky waist argument. Contracting your core and posterior chain equals a stronger core and posterior chain. Eating 5000 calories a day and cycling mexican supplements while weighing 250+lbs builds a larger waist, which is who everyone is reffering too when making that argument. See these world class powerlifters that have 50 variables that contribute to that body type, yeah lets isolate a single one and claim its responsible for that 36 inch waist. And god forbid you put a half inch on your waist consisting of dense muscle fibres. Better that than the full inch of fat you currentlly have sitting there.
No better feeling than reppin heavy deads in a commercial gym and catchin eyes through the mirror. Women love callused hands, bleeding shins and high blood pressure, it triggers primal needs, it gets the people going.

DL is just another exercise, not anything "kingy" in it. The fact you were doing so many so often doesn't mean anything, was proly based on the opinion of your coach. And who gives the sheat about opinion of your long dead of old age coach? How many Olympians were amongst your "oly lifting" "master" (my аss) race crew?
