rate my business idea
- a company that manages "shell" companies in hot topics (such as AI/ML, influencer platform, etc)
- they aren't real companies, but you can pay a membership to be listed as an employee
- membership fee is based on title, after you pay the fee, you get hired on as a "contractor" (pay them like $1)
- if a real company does a reference check, we confirm that you hold that position/work there
basically a way for new grads to gain "work experience" on their resume, people transitioning to other fields, etc.
EXAMPLE:
- person is a new grad, uses my service and wants to work at my fake startup company that is "revolutionizing AI implementations". He wants to be contracted as a software engineer. He pays me X dollars to be hired on as a contractor.
- Now he is "working" as a software engineer and can leverage that to apply at real companies
- real company does a reference/background check, I confirm that the person does work here as a SWE.
not sure on the legality of it, but seems like a good idea. maybe this already happens, who knows.

Gotta admit this is one of the few business start up ideas that might work.
You should also offer an additional service where you develop a company website for the dummy corp so that it seems more legit.

I don’t think you’re actually srs
It’s a good idea but you’re only asking the Misc’s opinion so somebody can discourage you and that will give you a reason not to continue with it

Also, just for clarity, I would "own" the dummy corp. That way it seems more legit as I would have multiple people "working" there. So back to the AI company example:
- person 1 pays to be SWE
- person 2 pays to be lead SWE
- person 3 pays to be social media influencer or w/e
Now I have a company with 3+ employees so when people look it up, it doesn't look like a blatant scam.

not only that, would have to register like 3-4 companies, do marketing, etc.

Technically speaking, if you set up a dummy corporation by filing articles of incorporation with a jurisdiction and if the dummy corp has a valid tax ID, then it's legally a business.
And if you have a business license, then you can legally rent office space at a commercial property, and it'd probably be dirt cheap since commercial real estate has been suffering for decades. Then you could probably live in that commercial space.
Example: Drive through any major city and you'll see "Psychic Advisor" or "Palm reader" businesses. MOst of these businesses are fronts, people just live in those spaces because commercial rent in old shopping plazas is cheaper than renting an apartment in a major metropolitan area.
Please see signature: Everything I post is satire and purely for entertainment. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE.

Incorporating sounds great until you learn about labor laws and all the chit you'd be in for with employees. This already exists on a smaller scale, it's called having friends vouch for you. Very easy to throw up a website with a Google Voice number and verify over the phone that X worked for such and such dates. When they ask for paystubs in the background check and you forge them, yeah you're opening yourself to another level legal risk with financial chit.
It's a cool idea OP but practically speaking, it'd be taking on too much risk. Aren't you looking for a SWE job? Much easier and enjoyable to make bank doing that. And IME it's exceedingly rare to have a unique business idea. What sets the victors apart are networking and backing. Even if you have a great, new idea, someone will come along and take it from you unless you have all that other stuff lined up. You think Uber was the first to realize that taxi medallions were bull****? AirBNB the first to realize that people were tired of paying top dollar for hotel rooms? Nah, these companies flaunted regulatory law and had the VC backing and legal teams to get away with it.

In order to get "employees" (customers) you'd have to advertise. If your customers can find it, so can their potential real employers. You'd have to set up 2 companies, one which advertises for fake employees, and the one they put on their resumes.
