Can someone help me remember what I'm trying to think of?

I while back I was reading Wikipedia crap and read about some writer/director/musician/developer who couldn't complete their project and a fan took it over and finished it even better than it was. I can't freaking remember what it was. No idea if it was a movie, book series, musical, video game, etc. All I remember was it was a fan who didn't have any professional experience but still ended up making it great. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? It's pissing me off to no end.

Cave story?

It’s a game started by the developer and finished by fans.

Updated my thread a couple months ago with the summer harvest. Nothing really new since then.

Dis it? Lewis Capaldi has Tourette's and there have been a couple times during the concerts that he can't finish the songs.

Its like a blessing with a curse. Amazing voice, but Tourette's really giving him trouble.

I just started doing Internet searches to see what would come up. Lol

Nevermind, I think I was thinking of Wheel of Time although I thought the new author was more of an amateur.

Yes! I was gonna come in here and say this.

Robert Jordan died before Wheel could be completed, but he left extensive notes behind. Brandon Sanderson was hired to finish the series and apparently made the series great again, where it was apparently lagging at around book 8 or so.

I've read up to book 5 and it started dragging there for me. I should pick it up again some time, but honestly, Malazan Book of the Fallen is 1000x better.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.
