2000 rated chess players.....how?

Rapid, not blitz

Been climbing myself out of a hole caused by playing in less than ideal situations, and will be back at my all time high in a few games (a bit over 1600)

I took the advice on just focusing on tactins and not worrying about openings, and it's paid off tremendously. But I know 1600 and 2000 are WORLDS apart.

Does that level require real study? Books and whatnot? Did you just play thousands of games until lower levels were child's play?

Are you talking ELO or chess.com rating?

2k elo is where you start getting into the titled range (candidate masters) where 1600 is a strong B weak C player.

2k rated players are definitely serious, either you're dedicating a good chunk of your life or you're a prodigy cruising up the rankings before meeting any real resistance.

Say something like "WATCH OUT!!" while pointing behind the other player, and when they turn around you flip the board or just rearrange some pieces
Would kick em in the nuts

There’s some inherent cognitive skill that separates the elite from the pros but there was a video on youtube that basically showed that chess mastery and skill is ultimately gained from endless games and recognizing strategy.

Only did one IRL tourney years ago and was rated 1440, which was around where my chess.com rating was at the time. I'd kick my ass from back then now.

Where do you hang around?

Chess.com and official over the board ratings are pretty close, some people are better at one, some are better at the other, also depends on how good you are with a computer mouse and what kind of Internet connection and settings you have,

I am 2200 to 2350 in bullet and blitz, and i beat Titled professional players daily, though they beat me as well lol

2000 rated player is not serious, there are many levels to the game, I would say people rated 2300 and up are starting to get serious, getting to 2000 is extremely easy, there are many ways to go about it, with self study I would say a couple of books, carefully selected, and well studied, a few Hundred puzzles done many times over, and some experience, probably with some opening repertoire videos.

I only started playing at an adult age, I have no talent at all, and never took the game seriously or spent hours on study, had no problem eventually peaking at 2350 which would probably translate to about 2150 at best in official in-person tournaments.

To get to that level, you definitely have to go over your losses with the computer, and at least spend half an hour here and there doing some reading, and solving some puzzles. And like I said, at least a couple of books will have to be read and carefully studied.

Without a very specific opening repertoire, which involves some memorization, it’s gonna be really tough to crack the 2100 players, they’re not stupid, they’re going to try to get a good position straight from the opening due to some memorization and private lessons they have taken,

There’s a lot of theory involved in chess, it takes actual studying and thousands of hours of practice to learn patterns of play that emerge.

You’re reaching, if not already at, the upper limit of where you can get your rating to without an organized and methodical study plan and significant time investment in chess. I’m planning to get to 2000 one day as well but I don’t have the time to devote to it right now. There are guides/advice on YouTube for coming up with a plan if you really care that much. 1600 is pretty good though and you should be proud of it.

Maybe they are pretty close maybe not. Magnus at one point had 3300+ in blitz on chess.com but he's elo is more like 2850, so the variance could be pretty huge.

If you're really in the 2300 range without trying then you are extremely gifted for chess. You should pursue it and see if you can get titled, will rep for life if you do.

OTB I'm around 1750 in classical, I used to bounce around between the Kingstowne and Arlington chess clubs when I lived in the DC area. I live in the middle of nowhere utah now so I'm mainly online.

I hit like 1800 on lichess a while back but the time investment isn't worth it to get and higher imo

It gets to the point where you're studying rules and patterns like opposition, end games and whatever else. It's too much for a casual game

you know what it is, I noticed that people who have some chess books and even take lessons and play in tournaments and visit chess clubs, and have like an 1800 or whatever rating, they’re confusing knowledge with ability, think of someone who goes to the gym and gets on the treadmill And wonders how come they’re not competing in bodybuilding or figure competition, or maybe think of someone who loves classical music, and knows birthdates of composers and listens to symphonies on YouTube, etc., but they never actually learned how to play an instrument, it’s similar to that in chess, you actually have to cut the BS and start solving the same set of a few hundred puzzles over and over until they are on auto pilot, analyze your losses with a computer and really Study a couple of books really well, you basically have to develop ability to play,

At this point it's probably just mainly time investment. I think we're around the same level and I'd say if I just played 2-3 hours a day I'd be at 2k elo within 6-12 months.

Got up to 1300 on chess.com then just got destroyed consistently and somehow got back down to 1100. I've heard some players use bots/cheats?

Bots are usually caught quite easily and you'll get your rating back if you lost to one that was caught.

I just enjoy playing it at my current level. That's the beauty of the whole Elo system, you're always playing against somebody around your level.
