Owning a giant lawn sounds like a HUGE pita, srs.

I hear stories from brahs who talk about owning homes with like 5+ acres of land.

I don't understand it. These dudes spend like 6 hours a week just mowing their lawns. On what planet is that a good time?

One of my more fringe beliefs is that every man should grow crops (or raise animals, or grow a lawn in this case). I think it's requisite for strong mental health that we create things from the earth.

5 acres would be a lot but you can just get a bigger mower

I have a 1 acre lot that is quite a bit of work to maintain, had a push mower for the old house

I only have 6000 sqft or so, can’t stand doing lawn, built a pool, deck and artificial grass with drainage below. Zero maintenance Other than picking up leaves every couple of weeks.

Less autistic read on Jordan Peterson's favorite Cain and Abel story is

Abel raised livestock
Cain raised crops

This forced Abel to act more compassionate, since he needed healthy animals to procreate, etc. Too complicated to manipulate.
Cain was able to try to cheat since there's less 'life' to manage with crops.

My Dad always said riding the mower was therapy for him. Probably also helped that my parents have several acres to mow and he'd drink about six beers doing it all.

Approx 10 acres at my primary residence, mostly forest with a small brook leading to a lake. 1.5 acres of manicured lawn, which I pay a crew to mow. Did it myself the first few years but quickly realized that as much as I enjoy it (for real), my time has better uses. I very much enjoy looking out over the rolling green down to the lake!

There's another couple acres of fields (very fertile soil) which I have mowed by another guy with a bush hog every few years to keep the alders down. He's a friend of my dad and tries to refuse payment but I give him a few hundred bucks anyway. Well worth it!

For me, the peace and satisfaction is more than worthwhile. Now if you are in some kind of HOA situation with Karens giving you **** all the time, yeah that would suck.

Problem with not mowing a big property is wildlife loving long grass, and you’ll end up with wildlife living there even in a city. That can bring pests, stuff that can damage your property, etc

BRB watching things scurry away from the mower, and finding dead stuff when you’re done mowing

Just pay someone to cut the grass for you. And/or just do like 1-1.5 acre of grass and the rest wooded.

yeah I got two tall trees in my back yard and it fukin sucks to trim them. Every 6 years or so I gotta pay up the ass to get them professionally trimmed too. Good ass shade though.

Next house I get, I'm gonna make sure the landscaping is easy as fuk. If I ever hit the lotto or make it big as a shrimpin boat captain and become the #1 supplier of shrimp, I might just stay home and mow my lawn all day.

This. If I let the grass get much longer than 5" tall, I end up with more chipmunks, squirrels, and bugs. Gets legit crazy when it gets to to 6"+. I've seen neighbors let their lawns grow as tall as like 8" - 9" before, and it's a legit habitat for woodland animals. Must be a legit mini-forest if people with half a dozen acres or more don't keep the grass mowed.

i take care of about 14k sf (1/3 acre) and hate it serious. I dont know how people deal with acres. Not only mowing but weeding, pruning, maintenance, plants, trees, mulching, etc. Im gonna ask my neighbor to do it for me next year. On summer weekends, the last thing i wanna do is mow in 85F weather with bugs all over.

Yeah, there's definitely something to be said for the convenience of being a rentcel. Life is certainly a lot simpler when you're a rentcel, that's for sure. Anytime anything goes wrong, rentcels just call building/trailer park maintenance, or their landlord directly and call it a day. Home owners are finding their tradies/doing all their own work all the time, and dealing with the endless headaches of it all.

I forgot how everyone here is a millionaire who can easily afford to hire out any and all possible services, including owning multiple mini-mansions with hired workers to take care of the jumbo sized lawns.

I own a big chunk of land. Only ~1/3 acre tops, surrounding the house, is a lawn that needs to be mowed. The rest is timber. Even if you don’t have timber, you could be putting the land to use. Lol @ mowing more than 1 acre
