Actually the surface on the pic is posted looks pitted. That metal is structurally weaker than any newer steel bars.

So yea, you can rip someone off and pass it off as "nothing wrong with it". Happens all the time.

Doesnt invalidate my argument whatsoever.

The steel in the pictures you posted are still going to be weaker than steel thats not corroded.

Do you know how structural steel works or how "corrosion" works? The wall wasn't galvanized steel, it's black steel that is painted before installation. Surface prep is required prior to installing any of this, as you need to prep the material and then coat it. This is the same style of coating that is used on Water Tanks and Towers, just as an FYI. As the coating deteriorates, the surface is blasted clean down to bare metal and recoated in accordance with your specifications. Losing a couple mils of Surface material is not impacting your structural integrity, and is what you'd be losing during your surface prep anyway. This is just black steel, there's no structural integrity or strength loss with the steel in its current state.

I personally think they should have use Galv. Steel to begin with, but it's a much lower up front cost to not galvanize this much steel and instead work maintenance into future contracts so it makes sense in that way.
