Is it just me or are more and more reviewers just handing out 10s like candy on Halloween?

I don't mean that any of the current gen games are bad by any stretch, but I can't personally say that they're all 10/10 and feel good about it.

You didn't know reviewers are all paid off? The whole system is a scam, unless the game I like gets reviewed well.

Agreed.
Statistically speaking, we were due for an anomaly year where a bunch of 10s would drop. For that matter, a bunch of AAAs.

I have to wonder if a lot of them started development at the same time, like when the covid shutdowns started, since writing the early code would be so easy to do for the employees at home (as opposed to motion cap and sound design). Fast forward 3 years later and boom, we got Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy 16, new Zelda all dropping in the same 30-day window.

Then again what do I know? Word is that GTA6 has been in development for 10 full years.

Don't fall for the "Day 1 Trap". I 100% regret buying the ultimate edition of Diablo 4 since the benefits of it don't measure up to the price. And getting to play the game 5 days early is NOT a benefit! You're merely beta-testing the game in preparation for the next big patch.


Used to be, I had a hard rule of NEVER buying a Total War game on release, but rather waiting at minimum a month due to the sheer volume of game-fixing patches they release during the first 30 days. At one point they even (successfully) petitioned metacritic to count patched TW Rome II and new-release TW Rome II as two separate games entirely, so two different metacritic scores.

I look forward to playing Starfield in October or November.

I don't trust Westoid reviews of JRPG inspired indie games made by Westoids.

It's very suspicious to me that all these Western indie games that are heavily inspired by Japanese games continuously get praised with high reviews, all the while actual Japanese games from the exact genre coming out of Japan regularly get chitted on with mid to garbage reviews.

"Western made Metroidvania inspired indie game #32039481874982347923 gets a 9/10!"

"Actual Metroidvania made by Igarashi indie grassroot kickstarter game gets chitted on by the same source 6/10"

It's almost like a collective Western effort to sabotage Japanese gaming.

I don't understand how people get so hyped over games like this. it's all derivative stuff, nothing new going on, and would've looked ok 20 years ago.


that being said, I'm also tempted to buy Chained Echoes because of how many freaking good reviews it got.

Love the art style and music, but the stories and characters in these games are always so boring and childish.
If it's still around on Game Pass next year I might give it a go. There's just too many interesting games coming out now.

D4 will eventually be good thru seasonal updates so it's not a total waste of $. But yeah it's a game in premium beta right now.

Agreed, but if they refunded them and said they didn’t want it in their game, they’d suddenly see reeeeesetera doing a smear campaign along with many many other gaming sites. It would have killed their game.

Im kind of in a rut since BG3 ended so I dont think I'll play any game until Spiderman 2 releases. Starfield is still a mess so I figure I'll wait till they bring in some patches that fixes the most basic chit that should have been there from day one and dont wanna burn myself out on open world before going to another.

It really reminds me of Golden Sun more than anything. I'm at about the 4 hour mark, it's not terrible. The gameplay loop might get stale but from what I read it's only about a 30 hour game.

I'm back and forth between this and Baldur's Gate, I'm still getting frustrating on and off performance issues (despite not changing anything) where it will sometimes just not run and sometimes it's crystal clear. So when BG3 upsets me, I turn this on for right now.

If you need a "quick" linear JRPG this works wonders. Early impressions would put it at like 7-7.5/10 for me. The soundtrack is catchy.
