Read the study. It's linked in the OP.

"Of the 732 participants, 229 passed all criteria (31%). Due to loss of contact with 114 participants despite our repeated attempts to reach them, we successfullyenrolled 115 participantsin the study as the final sample (50 cash, 65 noncash; see Table 1)."

Who is angry?

Some of the people you alluded to, including Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek, supported unconditional cash transfers to the poor. Friedman had his negative income tax, Hayek supported a guaranteed minimum income.

None of these things contradict capitalism, or couldn't exist within a capitalist system. They are different ways of administering social spending/safety nets which every capitalist country has.

Going on a copy and pasted diatribe about socialism brings nothing to the discussion. Which is why you give me strong low IQ 18 year old frat bro on his first week of lolbertardianism vibes. Kek.

What did I “copy and paste”? Everything I posted comes from memory of what I have read in books sitting on my bookshelves, many of which I read years ago. Other sources have been lectures, which leads me to read more books on the subjects.

Friedman was a monetarist, which is similar to Keynesian economics in many regards. Friedman’s writings on the observation of markets and history is very good, but his ability to predict markets failed because he didn’t seem to subscribe to some of the principles that he wrote about. He worked for the government as well, so his practice was not always what he preached. Being a monetarist also confined him to one set of restrictive economic calculations that didn’t take some important things in to account.

Hayek made a contradiction in this case. His observations were that once government obtains power, it’s virtually impossible to reverse that power. Every policy made gives the government more power, and even if that policy fails, as long as it maintains that power given to the government, they won’t reverse it. He also said that Socialism was stealing from the taxpayer to give to another group. That's not capitalism.

for instance, most, if not all, of the welfare programs created were only meant to be temporary. Because it corrupted society in a manner that allowed politicians to become much more powerful and hold power and influence, it was never abolished, even though it did more harm than good.

It is possible to study individuals and their teachings without agreeing with everything they said. As mentioned, even if Hayek did support this, much of his lessons contradict this idea. In Road to Serfdom, he explains how socialism quickly deteriorates in to totalitarianism and even communism. Another example is Karl Marx. He made a lot of good observations, but that doesn’t mean I agree with everything he said, and his conclusions were completely nonsensical even though his observations were not.

So it’s possible to learn something from someone you might disagree with. Lastly, as time goes on, we learn more and more. These social experiments can take generations to produce conclusive outcomes. What might have a “good idea” back then, can now be proven as being a bad idea.

Two of the great minds of our time, Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams, assessed a lot of these ideas and policies, and published their results in newer books.

So I have to disagree. You’re saying that because I “alluded” to someone, that it throws out all of their other lessons, and I’m not allowed to be nuanced with other economists and historians. My knowledge on the subject is a compilations of many economists and historians, and if we threw out everything based on one or two things each got wrong, well, we wouldn’t have anything left to read or learn.

Economics is still a science. It’s trial and error, it’s analysis of data. It’s seeking out the truth by both what went wrong and what went right. Today We gather far more data than we ever have in the past. We can see what was good and what was bad info and assumptions. If someone gets something wrong, but everything else was pretty accurate, does that mean he’s absolutely wrong? Does the opposite apply?

I’ve read monetarists, Keynes, Marx, Libertarians, classic liberals, socialists, communists…and I’ve looked at what they got right and what they got wrong, and formed my conclusions as a whole.

Edit; I also want to point out, that you are still not objecting to the information that I am posting, but rather attacking me and creating strawmen arguments. You are basically saying I am not allowed to refer to theories and facts for one reason or another.

You are making the weakest arguments possible in an attempt to make me look like a fool, and yourself as the authority

Spending in general or the conservative stance that people who are homeless made bad decisions and should get no societal support?

JLC uses projections to make his arguments. Its low IQ and troll-like behavior.

Example here. He can't make a good argument, so he creates a new one out of thin air. This will go on forever if you let it.

Its all about diverting away from sensible and reasonable discussions. Radicals use this tactic to "interrupt" speech that opposes their agenda. Its a tactic outlined in a lot of Marxist propaganda.

Yeah that was a typo on my part, which I've corrected; you claim that he was in favour of foreign spending specifically over within-nation spending.

Now back up your claim and quote him saying that.

There are vast amounts of studies that show the source of the money has an impact on how it is spent, but it is still coming from the government, which means it doesn't make a difference. It still fits into the same category of spending.

Couldn't money sent as aid to other countries be used to try this combination approach within the country?

Is it preferable for tax payers' money to leave the country rather than spent within their borders?

in the words of Hayek “You have to know what can go right before you can know what can go wrong”. In other words, you want to do a social experiment that contradicts what we know works, and have a pretty good idea of what can go wrong.

Why does it matter what form of capitalism we are? None of those things you listed have made a dent in the ultimate drivers that define capitalism - private property and the profit motive. But let's follow along your logic path - Yes, we have more government intervention. Why is that? Do you not think these regulations were written with blood in response to some aberration against human rights or market disruptions that capitalism caused? Why do we have labor unions? They're not government mandated, they're grassroots reactions to the imbalance of negotiating power between capital and labor. Everything you listed are direct response to capitalism being ruthlessly exploitative against anyone who isn't a capital owner.

Famously through US history there has never been any examples of employers exploiting the chit out workers in the absence of unions or regulation, let's go back to that. We thankfully have more protections against the excesses of capitalism than 100 years ago, does that make us less of an absolute form of capitalism? Yes, sure, and thank god (or rather unions and socialists) for it.

No one has to accept your premise that we've "moved away from capitalism", we're still quite clearly deep into capitalism, you're just mad that its not anarcho-capitalism. Yes, lets completely abolish any avenue of power redistribution and make people subservient to private interests. Homelessness has gone up because the cost of shelter has increased far over what wages bring. We can argue over the causes of the price increases, but I think we can agree badly designed policy such as local zoning laws are at least partly to blame. You should also be able to acknowledge that left to their own devices, private builders have prioritized building wealthier people homes because its higher margin, leaving more affordable ones to languish. Another problem inherent to capitalism, chase where the money is greatest, not necessarily where is best for society.

Yes, government can do better at the very least reducing the obvious excesses of capitalism. All of your sweet analysis conveniently ignores how much wealth inequality your "lesser capitalism" has brought over the years. Man all that government regulation is sure doing a terrible job flattening out wealth accumulation if that's what you think is happening. Shouldn't rich people have gotten less rich over time if we're experiencing less capitalism? You talk about societies accelerating at faster pace before policies - Accelerating faster for who? According to what metrics? Where did those gains largely go to? Do we have a perfect correlation for what would have happened if government had instead administered those services?

You don't see Austrian economics anywhere in government because it lacks alot of empirical rigor. The same can be said about the methods of your favorite economist, Thomas Sowell. How do you not realize that you're advocating for a form of extremism - more unregulated capitalism?

Yes, let's manipulate the single flawed metric of unemployment by providing less-than-minimum wage jobs. Look, there are more terrible jobs that pay <$5/hr but hey unemployment went down, its a success! No, the minimum wage is already laughably low, and cannot support a single person's modest living expenses virtually all counties in the US. Removing it to make it even lower will help those people and lift all boats? Are you sure it won't just continue enriching capital owners, something we already have an insane amount of?

The only thing we may somewhat agree on is how bad our current economic strategy is: providing government funding to private corps to do something gets us the worst of both worlds - corps more interested in optimizing how to get more funds from the government rather than optimizing the product or process, thus defeating innovation, raises the barriers to entry so less competition that would otherwise (theoretically) lower prices and on the other side of it, we don't even get the thing for cheaper or better - student loans are a great example of this. If you simply have the government administer these services, particularly those that have pretty inelastic demand like public utilities, its cuts out so much of these nonsensical market dynamics. Weird that my water bill has always been pretty affordable with no interruptions in service. Don't they know the government can't do anything right? We should privatize that!

The thing that makes your arguments so silly is that other countries with your definition oflesscapitalism like ones closer to social democracies are doing better than the US in virtually every metric affecting their citizens. They're live examples, not theoretical drivel, and its hasn't played out like you argue it should have. If more direct government intervention would be so costly and inefficient for our country to implement things like socialized healthcare or government housing, why hasn't Austria or Norway or the UK collapsed yet? Don't they know the free market would perform much better and lead to better outcomes for all citizens? It's almost like having the government running these services directly cuts out rent-seeking middlemen and aligns incentives along a mission, not profit. The key, just like any other large organization, is good governance. Design and enforce good practices and you'll avoid 99% of the waste fraud and abuse that conservatives are so sure is inherent to government, never mind that it happens in every giant corporation just the same.

Hey weird that you forgot in that list of things that are people: you know what else is? Government. Companies being called people in Citizens United got us some of the grossest infusions of dark money to further entrench corporate interest in US politics. You don't even have to ascribe to your favorite boogeyman, Marxist theory, to realize all the pitfalls in capitalism and how there are real life examples of increased state intervention being better for wider swaths of ordinary people - not just the few at the top.

Is it better to have a higher wage and less people working, or a lower wage and more people working? More basement dwelling incels, thugs on the streets, or those having those individuals working? Is it better to employ US citizens or illegals?

Is it better for the government to decide that for the people, or for the people to decide for themselves? 75% of the “poor” are individuals between the ages of 16 and about 25. Those individuals get displaced from the workforce.

Is it better to stop a person who is willing to work for $8 an hour to feed his family, just to give an 18 year old living with his parents $15 an hour?

My argument is that there is always a cost. Why do YOU get to decide that? Are you God? Do you know the wants and the needs of every individual, or are you deciding based on what YOU want for others? Who gets to decide? How does the government know what the people want or needs? They don’t. You don’t. Pretending to know is epitome of arrogance and narcissism.

People vote on self interest, and when that self interest infringes on the rights and interests of another, it violates their liberty and steals their ability to choose for themselves. The economy reacts in its own interest. Increase min wage, and the youth will be out of work. Increase regulations, pay and number of workers goes down.

The question then becomes, how do you know when you have a solution? Is there even a solution at all? Are you making it better or worse? When you decide for others, you rarely look at the downsides. You on;y look for the good, then pat yourself on the back. Then you get angry when politicians are dirty too. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

If you do harm when trying to help someone, it’s still evil. Ignoring the harm is also evil.

It was already proven that cash gift cards given out to the homeless after Katrina were spent at the Hard Rock Casino and liquor stores.

Cool story, bro.

And stimulus money. People spend free money differently than they spend money they earned.

This is why government can’t know what everyone needs. The 18 year old living in their parent’s basement and the mentally ill homeless man get money, but that’s not what either of them needs. One needs a job, while the other needs medication and/or a mental hospital.

Just give them free cash from The taxpayer.

They deserve it
Homeless squatters in Casper, Wyoming, "destroyed" a local motel, which would require millions of dollars to repair, and left hundreds of pounds of human feces in the downtown area, according to the city’s mayor.

"It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. It’s third-world-country stuff happening in Casper, Wyoming," Mayor Bruce Knell told the Cowboy State Daily last week.

"It used to be that a middle class family could afford a car payment and a house payment and a yearly vacation. They could afford gas to take the kids to soccer and all kinds of events. They could afford a wedding for their daughter, college for their studious kids etc etc.

Where it all started...

The aftermath of WWII.

The workplace changed then. Men came home from war and all the women were in jobs that men typically did. They didn't have the strength of men, so men were better workers.

So then they needed the women to go back home. All of the sudden, having children was the greatest thing portrayed by MEDIA. They played on maternal emotions. I love Lucy became all about Lucy's pregnancy. The magazine ads were all about the joys of motherhood. All the media tried to get the women to go back home by making the workplace seem too risky or too masculine to continue to work.

The best thing for women, get married and have kids...and this was where the BABY BOOMERS were literally born until sometime in the 60s. The wages were high enough that one man could support a stay at home wife and kids.

But then the companies got greedy. Over time, it was too expensive to raise kids and have a family, and after children were in school, women went back to work for cheap wages to supplement their husband's income.

That's when LATCH KEY KIDS were born. As soon as they were in school, children would walk home unsupervised and lock themselves into their homes and wait till Mama came home from work.

Then these women were empowered, even by the Virginia Slims they smoked. They were equal. The MEDIA said so. They had equality, so they could work alongside men and de facto make about half of what they made for the same job.

And while the money is closer today, it's still not the same. Labor jobs are still heavily male, but without special skills, a woman was relegated to clerking or serving.

It's what the MEDIA tells you. Who does the MEDIA serve? We know it's not our gov't because when Trump was president, he was continually maligned. Think of the powers that be in the media. The advertising, the shows you watch, the values people hold are media driven. They're always trying to give you the values that benefit THEM.

The best you can do is rebel. Refuse the values that media gives you. Get married if you're straight because they don't value marriage in straight people. Have children. They continually devalue children. And when you have them, protect them from the media values in this world They only live to serve themselves. Its the only way for humanity (as we know it can be) will survive."

Sorry I ghosted the thread.

Because you are not taking into account the whole homeless population. In fact, the results for enrollment only being 30% successful tells you all you need to know. 70% (the vast majority) have big issues that need dealt with other than just giving them cash.
It's what most people have been saying in the states for a long time. Addiction and mental health issues make up the majority of the homeless population.
