Rome tried to pay them to fukk off and it would work for a few years but they would just come back. Eventually The Western Empire fell, with a German leader deposing the Emperor of Rome and declaring himself the ruler. Later Germans became an instrumental part of ruling The Western Empire in the new incarnation of the holy Roman empire .
