No argument there, the end can come very quickly. I see some people are pencilling in Alcaraz for 20+ slams but he's only 20 years old and anything could happen.

Safin at around 6'6" moved incredibly well at the same age and looked like he'd be unstoppable after humiliating Sampras at the US Open but injuries soon took their toll and he finished his career with 2 slams. That level of talent deserved much more.

Novak has proven himself when it comes to longevity and I'd be surprised if he doesn't maintain his level for another year. The Australian Open is the real test. When he stops winning there you can put a fork in him.

As for those talking up Novak's demise like Alcaraz is going to go on a tear winning everything, keep in mind Djokovic has figured out how to play everyone else so he'll be consistently locking in finals.

Alcaraz hasn't been on the tour long so it's inevitable he's going to have his struggles with bad matchups not to mention now that he's No. 1 coaches are going to put in a lot of time coming up with plans to beat him.

If there is an upset in the works, its here. I want Djoko to max out his GS count, but this match looks pretty crazy on paper. Djoko would destroy Tiafoe imo, but Shelton poses a bigger threat.

Zverev looks pretty dangerous while Alcaraz has looked beatable in the last few weeks.

I'm not picking against Joker, but Shelton can be a threat to anyone because of his game. If he is consistently hitting the firsts in and on-target when crushing that 100+ mph forehand, he can hitanyoneoff the court. Against someone like Joker, he'll need to be nearly perfect (which is unlikely), but his chances are at least non-zero.

If I had to bet, this is the outcome I would bet on. It's his first major semi on Ashe vs the GOAT. Most players don't handle the pressure and enormity of the situation well mentally and get run off the court. The greats learn from the experience and come back better next time.

I could see Shelton taking a set just by swinging big with nothing to lose but can't envision him keeping it up to beat Novak.

Great to see Zverev back and perhaps more mentally tough than before. I still think Sinner was the bigger threat to Carlos/Novak though.

I just saw a stat that 2023 Alcaraz and 2007 Djokovic are the only players at 20 years or younger to reach 3 slam semis in a season.

Like you pointed out, if he wasn't robbed of 4 slams he'd be heading for 30. And despite that, he continues to dominate even with the intense pressure and critique during the Covid era. I can't think of any other athlete that's had so much resentment, hate and scrutiny against him and still continued to destroy all his competition.

The GOAT without question, he's so far ahead of the other 2 it's laughable to even debate it anymore.
