Drove OTR from 2006-2008. It was an adventure. I probably would have stayed in it if it weren't for realizing my grandmother needed me because she was getting older and less able. My career has taken off in another direction since but I'll admit that when I see a long nose pete that's been well taken care of I hnnnnnggg and think about selling my house and going on the road again. The dually w/trailer vs. semi's is a pro and con thing. More limited but lower overhead. If you get the right nich I'd say it's probably the better route because you can drop your trailer and go about anywhere but you can't with a dually as well.

Gave up my Class A CDL because if I got a ticket the price is higher, in an accident even with a regular car you are consider a "professional driver" so you can get into more BS. Having to get a DOT physical just to renew my DL or get a adress change, anything. I waited 2hrs in line for a DOT physical and just said F it and got it reduced to a class C. Never doing that work again anyways.

Final thoughts: I just love how every dude and his dad claims they can and have driven semi's before. When I started driving I remember every dude I knew said "yeah I've driven them before". When people say that trying to one up, I will find a vehicle with a manual and tell them to show me how they float gears and if they can't do it, I'll call them out.

I have an older half ton HEMI. It's basically a toy. First thing I did in the summer was ruin the rear u-joints hauling patio block (but tbh it was way overweight) then in the winter I ruined the front u-joints by plowing. Luckily i have a good mechanic hook up. But that wouldnt have happened with a 2500, let alone a 3500.

It does tow my toy hauler adequately though. And the newer half tons will probably be good enough for me when i upgrade. I never liked the idea of a bigger class when im just a normie doing tradie things on the weekend.

Ram's payload capacity is a joke cause of no leaf springs. For any serious work you need atleast a 2500. But yea for daily driving the half tons are the best

True but not that common but most of all, who is allowing some regular guy to get in their 100K truck and drive it around. Imagine if they got pulled over, it's like driving without insurance/license. The liability if there was an accident.

However I know how it is, most guys pick things up real fast, just jump in and use common sense and master everything. Talking about being able to back in at truck stops first try. I only needed actual school and going along with a trainer with I don't know how much experience. I guess I'm just slow or something. However, yet these guys being such fast learners, they do regular jobs and are average at most things they do. Why aren't they out changing the world, designing and inventing the next treat thing, leading the nation, running a huge corporation instead of just being an employee. Something isn't adding up. I'll ask something like "With a 53ft trailer, if you are backing up at a walking pace and turn the wheel suddenly right, what direction with the trailer move and how long will it take the trailer to react and actually start turning" and watch the excuses. I haven't driven a combination vehicle since 2008 so I'm probably so rusty I'd have to start all over again, and I don't think I would be safe to be on the road. I think I would probably catch on pretty fast because things would come back to me, but I woudn't try to just jump behind the wheel. The point I'm trying to make is how guys act like it's all so easy and they are such experts on everything.

Oh, forgot to add. Never heard of a 14 speed in a tractor trailer. I've heard 8, 9, 10, and even 12, but from there it jumped to 18. Who's making a syncronized trans in a big rig? Is it common?
