The policy was set in place by the Peel District School Board based on guidelines from the Canadian School Libraries Association.

The Conservative Education Minister stepped in and halted it once made aware.

"_Directive 18 instructs the board to complete a diversity audit of schools, which includes libraries.

"The Board shall evaluate books, media and all other resources currently in use for teaching and learning English, History and Social Sciences for the purpose of utilizing resources that are inclusive and culturally responsive, relevant and reflective of students, and the Board's broader school communities," reads the directive."

Did the Directive specify guidelines, or did the school board decide on those?

The school board defended its decision in an official statement to National Review on Wednesday. “The Peel District School Board follows the library weeding guidelines set by the Canadian School Libraries Association. These guidelines direct the teacher librarians at our 259 schools to keep books with any publishing date that are accurate, relevant to the student population, inclusive, not harmful, and support the current curriculum from the Ministry of Education.”

DERP, right over your head. Yes, there are books that should be banned based on explicit nature but these laws are being used to ban any books that slightly offends people on district school boards. Citing that there are books that legitimately should be taken out of the curriculum doesn't take away from the fact that these laws are being exploited by right-wingers with a political agenda. Does it need to broken down further for you, slow one?

I asked you directly since you want to pin this on the Education Minister. Sounds like the school board was allowed to exercise discretion and they chose The Woke Way™.

"18.The Board shall, through its Equity Office, established pursuant to Direction 10, undertake a comprehensive diversity audit of schools, which shall include naming, mascots, libraries and classrooms. The Board shall evaluate books, media and all other resources currently in use for teaching and learning English, History and Social Sciences for the purpose of utilizing resources that are inclusive and culturally responsive, relevant and reflective of students, and the Board’s broader school communities. The Board shall ensure that the audit is among the first priorities of the Equity Office and allocate the appropriate resources to conduct a detailed audit."

"We have a responsibility, under the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Education Act and the board’s policies and procedures, and a moral obligation to ensure all students feel safe and included in our school communities.

The Peel District School Board strives to ensure every student, staff, caregiver and community partner has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of ancestry, culture, ethnicity, gender expression, gender identity, language, physical or intellectual ability, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socio-economic status or other factors.

The board’s system goals reflect a commitment to ensuring equitable outcomes and providing equitable access and opportunity for all students and staff to learn, work and develop in a climate that is safe, positive, healthy, accessible and inclusive. One of the goals in our strategic plan – the Plan for Student Success – is to achieve inclusion through continuous progress on equity."

“PDSB teacher librarians have not been given the direction to remove all books published with a publication date older than 2008, nor has the board received provincial direction to remove particular books from our collections,” the board’s director of education, Rashmi Swarup, wrote in a statement.

“To be clear, books such as ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank and the ‘Harry Potter’ series remain in our collections, and where needed, newer versions may be purchased if the book is in poor condition.”

I linked to the Equity Office of the board.

I used quotes to indicate the content came from the linked sites.

Do you have an opinion as to why liberals enjoy reading kiddie porn to 3yr olds and not allowing teenagers to read Harry Potter?

So, a law being exploited beyond its original stated intention is not important? Especially when it comes to the politically-motivated book banning you seem hesitant to denounce?

No, it's not something I've experienced or heard about.

Because the "clause" doesn't dictate precise guidelines for the school to follow. If it did, then the directive would be the source of criticism.
