Can anyone explain what is so great about Taylor Swift?

Because I can't tell.

She's got a OK voice, all her songs are pretty samey, she looks fine, she's attractive but not remarkably so, she's not overly charismatic, she's just kind of mid on every conceivable level.

I don't know why people want to hate her. It's literally just jealousy of her success. I am not a Taylor Swift fan by any means, but she clearly works very hard and creates her own music. Very involved with her shows and her fan base. If there's anyone who deserves to see success it's that type of person. She really has earned it and only bitter jealous ph aggots which is a thriving characteristic of the misc end up hating.

America likes this for marketing: tall, thin, blonde.
Then you add to that country western beginnings, then pop, with a mostly humble personality.
The songs like "shake it off" were catchy and she seems to be fairly normal for a superstar.
The teen and kid crowds love her thus her shows are sellouts.

She may not be my type but i understand her popularity.

Depends on your definition of "filthy rich" and "connections". Her dad was an executive for Merrill Lynch. They were certainly pretty well off, but he wasn't the CEO or anything, either. She grew up in the same neighborhood where I did. It's a nice suburban neighborhood in a great school district, but not exactly Beverly Hills. They were fortunate to be able to move to Nashville when she showed that she had real talent in junior high. As for "connections", she was "discovered" by a computer repairman in Nashville, who also happened to be a musician (which is probably not uncommon in Nashville). That was by chance, not "connections".
