The only strange rule is the balk rule. I still don't understand it fully, even after decades of being a baseball fan

Foul tip is an out for third strike because it’s the equivalent to catching the foul ball if contact occurred or would be a strike if it didn’t.

Which is why the rules for registering it as a strike involve a clean catch so it’s not ruled a “foul”

Meanwhile a batter could argue it didn’t actually graze it and it should just be a strike if it’s the first two strike count. The best case scenario for the batter still leads to him getting an out if it’s the third strike.

Once the pitcher has started to pitch to the plate he can’t change the commitment.

Typically determined by foot placement on pitchers step. Since the understanding is if he steps towards the plate he is throwing for the plate runners can use that as their cue to go. If the pitcher wants to fuk around with the rules and his feet to try and fuk with the runner the ump gets to call him on playing semantic bullchit and get back to baseball.

If the catcher doesn't cleanly catch strike 3, the batter can take off for first and has to be thrown or tagged out.

The infield fly rule is just dumb, both it's very existence and it's implementation.

without infield fly rule, every infield fly with runners on 1st and 2nd would turn into an easy double play

How? If the infield fly rule didn't exist then every situation with runners on 1st and 2nd would result in a double play on a pop up.

I know all the rules and reason for them but they're very funky

And?

Also it would turn into an easy double play with just a runner on first, so if that's what you're trying to avoid, why also require the runner on second?
