About to buy an $8k refridgerator

The giant built-in refridgerator at the new home I'm buying is broken. It's a $10k fridge. Lame.

Found a good deal on a similar one for $8k. Hold me. Spending like $170k this month lol

Subzero is the chit.

I bought a 3k Samsung fridge that turned out to be a barge anchor. Never buy Samsung appliances, they’ll fix it during the warranty but when it’s up they basically tell you to fukk off.

in the middle of a remodel - the gf wanted the wifi enabled see through door bs

got a side by side Whirlpool - wanted to upgrade to the Maytag but they didn't have the matching chit available

Boyo, in my childhood home, the old upright freezer from the 80s is still going. It's like 40+ years old, never failed, stuffed to the brim with frozen foods.

Damn that's a lot of money for a basic appliance. I have the Samsung with the tablet in it. I know Samsung's are so-so, but it's 6 years old and going good. The tablet mogs too.

FYI. Whirlpool owns Maytag. Has Whirlpool influenced their design?? Prolly.



As far as Samsung...mine is still marching along after about a decade. Icemaker doesn't work. Never did work well. Known problem that Samsung never addressed.


So yeah, avoid these things.

I am aware - I used to work for Whirlpool.

Everything starts at Maytag as that is the high end brand and flows down to Whirlpool and later Amana. Wasn't worth the wait time and we got the most basic side by side except for the water dispenser

Yup. And even if the mechanics of the machine are sound and made here, given that everything has an electronic component, and those are made cheaply in Asia, it's still a ticking time bomb.

not sure on the fridges

they used to show us the most popular models by retail and then the most popular models employees purchased - there were virtually zero employee purchases of front loading washers - engineering was telling everyone

So i had an appliance tech come over for 2 jobs( the honest type tech) and he told me that they all have a planned expiration date + or -.
He advised that your grandma's 40 year old maytag was not profitable for the companies, so they all coluded and you get at the most 7 years or parts are not available.
The GE dryers computer (400 bucks) died on an 800 dollar dryer so it lasted 6.5 years.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Pretty sure you are doing your build in wrong.

My inlaws have had several and the only mechanical part is a stand alone commercial compressor. The walk in fridge they have just has a special type of sheetrock and isolation.
